Based on the book ‘Henry Pond the Poet’, this resource focuses on developing an understanding of the words ‘vacantly’, ‘pulverised’, ‘hatched’ and ‘common’. This PowerPoint contains visual stimuli to aid the understanding of the vocabulary, opportunities for the teacher to model how to use contextual clues to work out the meaning of unfamiliar words and to discuss the reasons for and effect of the writer’s vocabulary choices. Opportunities for guided practice and independent work are also available within the slides (resources within the slides can be printed and enlarged if desired).

This is a bar model resource to help to deepen children’s understanding surrounding the addition and subtraction of fractions.

This resource includes two similar PowerPoints (one of which enforces the RUCSAC method for problem solving). These PowerPoints contain an example for the teacher to model, as well as guided practice examples. A WAGOLL is also provided to support the steps of the teacher modelling. Independent activities are also included. This resource focuses on teaching children to use bar models to solve problems that are difficult to visualise.

A task to develop retrieval skills using a range of question types (linked to pages 2 and 3 of ‘Dilly the Dinosaur’) is presented in a handy boxed format. This boxed sheet also extends children to use inference skills in the later questions. A simple prediction task for the book ‘Dilly the Dinosaur’ is included.

This is a full lesson (including a WAGOLL for the different levels of challenge, guided examples for the guided practice part of a lesson and independent tasks allowing children to access and progress to different levels of challenge) to develop inference skills. There is also a full teaching PowerPoint attached that allows the teacher to model and complete guided tasks with the class before the children move onto independent work. This lesson in aimed at Year 5 or Year 6 children.
