<p>CRAFTISTIC- SKILL BASED DESIGN AND MAKE PROJECT<br />
A very creatively engaging and enjoyable unit. I have been running this unit successfully for the last 5 years. Through this unit student of MYP year 2 have explore Bamboo craft , Braiding/ Weaving, Wet Felting, Tie-Dye and paper stencil . All crafts from India.<br />
Through this unit, they understand that design not only solves problems, but it can add beauty and value to small things we use in everyday life. This also broadens their knowledge of materials they can use to develop creative products.<br />
This unit focusses on ATL skill cluster -transfer skills- Applying knowledge and understanding in developing product and Social skills – working collaboratively as a team to develop products (this is good when you want to finish products following the entire design cycle in a limited period of time)<br />
The unit also focusses on crafts and sustainability, management of finite resources.<br />
The unit normally begins with a field trip (visit to a craft fair, a design show, a craft house, where children do primary research on different materials, techniques, products etc.). The field trip booklet is available on Tes. (please check). This is followed by children picking up which craft they would like to learn. ( I give 3 examples- wood, paper or textiles). This is followed by a one-day craft workshop, where children learn specific techniques.<br />
This is then followed by Criterion A, B, C and D<br />
Of course, in place of crafts one could teach children working with alternate everyday simple materials.</p>
