In our school we teach each unit of the course in both a chronological (train view) and synthesis (helicopter view). 4 time periods are taught over 3-4 lessons with a review lesson at the end of each mini unit. We mainly use textbooks Heinnemann Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992 and Access to History Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992.<br /> <br /> This lesson is called 'A land of opportunity' and introduces students to the main attitudes towards women 1865-1914 and the key factors that helped or hindered civil rights.<br /> <br /> Includes picture source analysis, factors worksheet and factor sorting, attitudes of different women using characters.

Includes source mystery, source inference, exam question, group work.<br /> <br /> References to textbook are from Hodder Edexcel Elizabethan England, BUT any Elizabethan Textbook could provide enough information on these plots.<br /> <br /> Starter: groups presented with 4 images, printable from power-point. Students to make inferences about sources and pose possible questions they want to find out over the course of the lessons. This will be returned to at end of lessons to see how they can make supported inferences or test knowledge and see if they can now answer questions.<br /> <br /> Main involved a crime scene style exercise: Groups are given a set of cut up sources which are printable from the power-point. To find connections between sources then try to determine key features and results of the plot. A grid sheet is used to collate information which is printable from the slide. Here, students could use additional textbooks to support information in the sources.<br /> <br /> Demonstrate learning is in form of 4 mark describe question with mark-scheme.<br /> <br /> Plenary is back to initial pictorial sources refereed to earlier.<br /> <br /> Fully editable.
