AQA GCSE Caribbean Music Resources

(10)
This is part of my resources for Caribbean music, focusing on Calypso and Salsa. I'll upload the other genres soon. There&'s the revision guide for each topic as well as the main musical resource for each. I recorded and programmed the Salsa one on logic but could only upload MP3 so I&';ve done a version where you can hear each instrument being added gradually. This works really well in collaboration with the score provided. The tracks for the listening test can be found at the bottom of the test. The Presi is what I used to deliver it - hopefully the youtube parts work! Comments please!

Music beginner singing and keyboard Skills

This is the beginning of year 7 baseline and music skills I delivered this year along with the student booklet and the resources I used. The backing track requires but I don't seem to be able to upload that fine so I&'ve created an audio track so you get the idea - contact me direct if you want the Logic version. I&';ve already moved away from this style (less written work, less ppt, and more formalised reflection star a la Martin Fautley) and will refresh the singing resource for next year as it's a bit dated now. Let me know what you think.

Music For Films

This is designed to be film music for students in their first term of music so goes through concepts in a detailed fashion, but has some great activities like the Tom and Jerry one. I've tried to upload as many of the resources as I can (no video upload allowed!), and if you don&'t understand/ need more resources just ask. I put the Tom and Jerry video into Logic and used the marker function to indicate to students when to play their segments which really helped.

Assessing students understanding of notation

I had a new class and I was trying to work out how much they knew about notation - a powerpoint of the lesson is attached. I used the first page of the Mozart to see if they could identify certain symbols and we discussed what they knew. I had transcribed a section of Ollie Murs Trouble Maker (which was no. 1 at the time) and deleted important parts. I gave this incomplete version to them to work out what was missing and finish it for homework listening on youtube. It helped them realise what to look for in any score (instruments, tempo etc) The complete version is also attached.
