<p>This unit of work is suitable for upper key stage 2 and is based on wind turbines. In the 6 sessions, children explore the function and structure of wind turbines; investigate structural designs finding out how to develop their ideas; and finishes with the children designing and building their own wind turbine model. The effectiveness of these can then be measured and assessed. This unit is particularly effective when taught alongside electricity in science and energy sources in geography.</p>

<p>This writing unit, which consists of 14 planned sessions, focuses on the life of Charles Darwin and would be perfect taught alongside a unit on evolution which forms part of the Year 6 science curriculum. This writing unit focuses on recounts – diary (first person, informal); a formal biography for an unknown audience and a news recount. It also includes an opportunity to hold a debate about whether Darwin was right to publish his work – The origin of species- and concludes with the children writing a news article outlining the events of its publication.</p>

<p>This is a literature-based English unit on the book Black Dog by Levi Pinfold. It explores the theme of fear and courage in detail and offers opportunities to teach key skills in spoken language, reading and writing for KS2. The unit would support children during the recovery phase.</p>

<p>This is a literature-based English unit for UKS2 children centered around the book The Boy at the Back of the Class. The unit explores many themes including, friendship, loss, seclusion and kindness, and focuses on skill development in spoken language, reading and writing. It could also be used to address key areas within a recovery curriculum and has strong links to PSHE.</p>

<p>This is a KS1/LKS2 English unit based on the book - When sadness comes to call. The unit focuses primarily on developing skills in spoken language and reading and could be used to address emotional well-being; exploring the emotion sadness and ways to cope when it comes to call.</p>

<p>This is an art unit that develops sketching and clay sculpture skills. It consists of 6 planned sessions and begins with the children learning how to add depth to their sketches using shading. They also develop their clay skills and work to designing and making a final shoe sculpture. Photographs of children’s work are provided to support the planning.</p>
