Letters from Yorkshire by Maura Dooley

(0)
H.A. Letters from Yorkshire powerpoint, embedded with video, context, tasks, analysis and cultural capital. Includes discussions of romantisisation, and deep analysis. There are some annotations, and examples of deep analysis - however, some stanzas have no annotations but highlighted colour coded quotes for students to add their own interpretation. This lesson could take 1 hour in a pinch, or 2 if working through at a more thorough pace. If you need annotations to supplement this powerpoint (for the two blank stanzas) I recommend the AQA anthology guide, PMT tutors or Glow up your Grades on Youtube.

Christmas Persuasive Writing

(0)
A fun lesson filler that will educate your class on the importance of writing persuasively by sending a letter to Father Christmas convincing him to take them off the naughty list. It includes a run down on persuasive writing techniques (DAFOREST) and a letter written by Elbert the Elf that demonstrates how to use these techniques in action. It also demonstrates on how to set out a formal letter. I’m using this my MA Year 9 and HA Year 8 but it would be suitable from KS3 to KS4 with some adaptation. Lesson includes a powerpoint and a printout. Happy Holidays!

A Monster Calls - The Third Tale, creative writing/cover worksheet

(0)
A creative writing activity based on the third tale of A Monster Calls, ‘The Invisable Man’. Within this activity, students use the limited information given from the Monster in this chapter to write their own short story with the quotes given. It includes an example of what the task may look like and a checklist to support their creative writing techniques. It would also be an effective cover lesson or homework for those studying the book so far.
