The tasks range from match up tasks, to wring their own sentences incorporating key literary techniques. Each task has answers, (except the 2 open tasks which give space for class discussion). These work great for starters but also they’ll work nicely as a retrieval task at the end of the lesson.

OCR ENGLISH LANG - QUESTION 4

(0)
For the 9-1 GCSE Spec. This resource looks at a more ‘unique’ breakdown of question 4. Before looking at an example, the powerpoint looks at the two features of the mark scheme (AO3/AO4) and some of the potential issues posed for students. The powerpoint then looks into understanding the question outside of literature so the students can better see how the question looks as a ‘skeleton’. This answer is then analysed to see why we should incorporate certain habits in writing question 4 and why it gives us marks. Originally, this was used for private tutoring of a year 11 covid student aiming for a grade 5, but it has been adapted to facilitate all grades. I would recommend this to be sent home with kids, or equally going through it in after school revision sessions. Perhaps even as a ‘longer’ retrieval task to make even more notes, complimentary to your teaching style or their own notes to better understand. Feel free to download and edit where you find necessary!

Then some retrieval mind maps with the key techniques Shakespeare uses. One for students to have a go for at themselves, the second has potential answers and interpretations for them ponder upon. DEALING WITH NEGATIVES INTRO LESSON

Hi all! This is a ‘smaller resource’ which looks at explaining how to deal with negatives in equations. It looks at rules when we divide, multiply, add and subtract negatives with positives or with negative themselves. It also look at understanding the size/value of negative numbers (who is smaller/bigger), with integers and non-integers. There are many activities scattered through the lesson for the students. There are also explanations for WHY the rules work. For example explaining, why - 3 x - 3 = 9, but the rules are at the top in bold, which is what the students should primarily focus on. I hope this helps, feel free to add and edit slides to make it appropriate for your classes!:)

ROMEO AND JULIET RETRIEVAL - AQA/OCR SPEC 9-1

Hi all! This was originally used in tutoring but it serves well for Year ten and eleven students who need to complete retrieval on Romeo and Juliet. There are several sets of retrieval questions, including answers, and ‘finish the quotation’ activities. The answers expand further for students who are looking for 7, 8 9 grades. There are some questions without answers. these are open-ended so depending on your teaching style you may decide to have the students write a few notes of their views on that passage or maybe have it as a debate - well and truly up to you! I have used these tasks for AQA and OCR but please recognise there are some OCR English Language Based questions in there as well - you can alter the questions to your english lang exam board! (There’s only a few) :)

Hi all! This resource includes: A breakdown of questions 1, 2 and 4 - no 3 because it acts in a similar way to Q2, but PPT does look at structural techniques. Paper- based breakdown. Questions courtesy of AQA - NOT MY PROPERTY. Breakdown on how to analyse texts. Breakdown on the meaning of evaluation for Question 4. I would recommend using this alongside my basic breakdown and teaching this in a series of sessions. That can either be more heavily or just skimming through the ppt for those key analysis skills particular to Y11.
