<p>A very simple three-sentence story with an option of two comprehension tasks to support SEND/ASN learners using Widgit symbols for reading and symbol recognition.</p>
<p>These communication boards can encourage use of AAC visuals either through modelling by the adult or used by the child to request or communicate. I use them daily during structured play and continuous provision.</p>

<p>Used to encourage counting with a complex SEND class working on numbers 1-5. We sing the song ‘5 little speckled frogs’ and encourage the children to place some frogs on the water and some on the grass and count how many are on each side</p>
<p>Sorting activity using widget symbols for SEND pupils to identify ‘i like’ ‘i have.’ Used with non verbal classes and SEN pupils who find written work challenging.</p>
<p>In this example plan, we work on requesting more. This is planned for a class of 6 pupils who are non verbal, have autism and have varying levels of communication in a Complex needs provision. The lesson would last 15 minutes, broken into 3 5 minute tasks. I hope that this is able o help those who, like I was, are struggling to make a start planning for a specialist setting.</p>
