Can be used in in a multitude of ways: a lesson starter or filler; an urgent solution for cover lessons; an extension activity for able, gifted and talented; some end-of-term fun quiz; a homework task for children to find out the answers at home; or as part of a long-term scheme to grow all students’ general knowledge. Suitable for Key Stage 3 and 4 English with cross-curricular link to History. A summary of the period of Remembrance and questions at the end to be answered on paper or in class discussion. Links to two trusted and safe resources (BBC and Royal British Legion) are included. This leads onto links to two short videos about John McCrae’s poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ and a comprehension on that poem following the reproduction of the text itself. A follow-up homework idea is to learn the poem off by heart and reproduce it in class, whether spoken or written.
