This resource was made using the following TES contributors
AMEIT - who wrote an A-Z of communication (the auther name on document was A Shahim)
I used a powerpoint template kindly donated to TES? by K Constable-
Good starter for As or Az communications - I have included the A-Z on the powerpoint so only one page needs printed - the powerpoint needs some love and for paper free schools why not show the grid and freeze the powerpoint and mark off manually
This starter is a great way of introducing the topic of inflation to business or economics students of all years- I have used it before and reformatted it for www.rapidrevision.co.uk. Start the PowerPoint and give every one a felt tip pen and a balloon. (The pound shop is very good for this!) Ask them not to do anything until they have had an instruction. Now switch slides to the first task (slide 2). Get students to follow instructions and discussion.
I dragged this old starter out of the resource bank today and rewrote it for www.rapidrevision.co.uk (teachers tips).
It was so successful I have been able to use it with all classes from year 10-13, so I thought I would share it with you all. Please allow at least 10 minutes.
It is the good old Pepsi challenge. I bought a load of cups and a cheap bottle of cola and a main brand. Before student arrived I printed off two of the slides and put them on the board and pored the cola (into cups!) by another label saying brand A and B. Students had to wait outside and I used a male and female volunteer to help me with the secret task. The waiting added to the activity!
When we were ready the girl volunteer took the girls to table A and they tried product A. They had to write down their scores on the board and their feelings onto the post it.
The boys did the same with B then they swapped.
The discussion was amazing. Kids understood that they needed to divide the data by the amount of girls, analysis, samples, quantitative data. They even were able to guess the lesson objective. With year 13 the activity kept us going for half of the lesson as we used it as a building block.
Could be tried with anything even nacho’s.
By the way – boys prefer cola drinks and prefer the number 1 brand!
Feedback please!
I have devised this case study and questions to test the first part of the unit.
I have included a marking scheme for peer assessment.
Case study could be used on its own or you could extract one of the questions- the essay questiion is looking at recruitment.
I have written another two & a mock -to save the only two new past papers we have. Would like feedback on this before I upload the rest!
This was devised by me and Sophie from Hewett school in Norwich- We have completed unit 1 edexcel and wanted a way to go back over marketing - Kids are engaged.
If you show the last but one young apprentice - we nicked the task from the 'Holland trip'
Spreadsheet is a little complicated but works on setting a rrp and then calclates wholesale at 50% to cover VAT - that way if teams negotiate you can bring down wholesale price and reduce margin
Feedback please!
Written for my induction/taster next week.
2 hours use word search as the starter then give out guide
I use the Christian Aid trading game as the group activity
Slides are mine EXCEPT - the why study economics which are Tutor 2 U - I believe!
If I have used anyone else without crediting please let me know- I can credit or remove!
feedback is always good
This activity I have prepared was adapted for a suggestion from Tutor 2 U which I picked up last year.
I tend to work in cycles so It is time to use this great activity for KS4 and KS5. This time I have put it onto power point with a handy timer on it.
You can use as a starter or a main activity – I have used it to look at market mapping, segments even suggestions for shops when looking at shopping centres.
I am not sure who gave me the original to this - I have adapted it.
I get one student up they pick a box – It should work for interactive if you have one (I do not)
Click the box then the student asks the question!
If they are stuck they can get someone up to help them
They can then ask any student of their choice the next question – I do it boy/girl
Hover over the underline and it goes back to start – I have not figured a way out of making the question disappear!
Introduction to markets - enspired by a visit by Belgium students to my class.
Starter is a true or false activity - using fact sheet
Main and lesson plan self explainatory
Inspired by my child asking why lots of CD's were advertised before a programme we were watching (he is 5!).
I will be setting extended learning this week of:
Watch TV (Commerical) ! Think about who the programme you watching is aimed for then make a note of the adverts- Analysis- are these products suitable for the type of people watching the programme?
Powerpoint is limited to 12 so can be printed on a 6 slide per page for a paper starter
MRP I find difficult to teach - until I did this- Making burgers! I split group into teams, armed with photocopies of burgers, 1 pair of scissors, blue tack and attached to a wall a piece of flipchart with 4 grids (1 per month) and a team name. tracking sheet (on powerpoint) and graph paper at the end. After each round total counted and another worker counted. at end they can draw MRP and prove (hopefully) law of diminishing returns could be adapted to teach business productivity
In the Daily mirror today, was a very accessible report on audience figures- I plan to use it for GCSE to consider segmentation and product extension, for As to support marketing and A2 to support strategy -In the document attached I have also included some questions on the data to give A level students (and the quicker GCSE students) a chance to number crunch.
Flexible activities - i used for 2 hours - could be split up.
Focus is marketing - i have included a picture quiz for adverts - I then ususally show adverts to get students to rank
The task this year was the guardian angel - you can download form you tube from American Inventor
Quick test with mark scheme to go over legacy unit - could be used for other specs as covers
