Art scheme of work for Year 4 but could be adapted for other Key Stage 2 year groups. Planned for the Spring term, hence the low lesson count. Some lessons can be delivered over two lessons. The structure of this unit is designed to develop the children’s skills and techniques so they are ready to apply them in the final piece - a class collaboration. LC1: I can recall key facts about David Hockney and can describe some of his famous paintings. LC2: I can appraise different paintings and select ideas that I can use in my own art piece. LC3: I can experiment with creating texture in different ways with pencil. LC4: I can use a range of different implements to draw a landscape sketch inspired by David Hockney. LC5: I can mix, name and use a range of colours, tints and shades. LC6: I can experiment with using paint in different ways to create different effects. LC7: I can use fine brushes to create detail in paintings. LC8: I can mix and use paint to create a wash for my final art piece. LC9: I can draw the landscape elements of my final piece, mix the tints and shades and begin to add colour using paint. LC10: I can add detail to my final piece and use thickened paint to add texture. LC11: I can review and evaluate my work in detail and the work of others giving suggestions for improvements.

L2- I can describe the best conditions for growing plants and explain why they need light, water, air and soil. L3- I can plan and conduct a plant investigation where I identify how to make it a fair test. L4- I can label the different parts of a plant linked to the pollination process and explain their functions. L5- I can describe and compare different types of seed dispersal. L6- I can explain how water is transported in plants.

Planned for Year 4 but can be adapted. Lesson 1 – I understand there are different steps in the water cycle and can label a diagram showing this. Lesson 2 – I can describe the different steps in the water cycle. Lesson 3 – I can explain how rivers are formed. Lesson 4 – I can label and describe the key features of a river system on a diagram and photograph. Lesson 5 – I can identify meanders and oxbow lakes on aerial photographs. Lesson 6 – I can describe how rivers erode, transport and deposit materials and how this changes over time. Lesson 7 – I can use atlases and maps to locate major cities, counties and rivers in the UK. Lesson 8 – I can use atlases and maps to locate countries, major cities and rivers in Europe. Lesson 9 – I can names the rivers that run through major European cities. Lesson 10 – I can compare and contrast the UK with different regions in Europe. Lesson 11 – I can identify a range of OS map symbols and can explain why they are used.
