A murder mystery activity for practicing multiplying up to 3 digit numbers. Can easily be adapted to make easier/harder or used as a template for a different topic. Learners answer multiplication questions, their answers (in order) become a code to unlock the mystery, they have to match their code to the murderer/victim/location/weapon/motive to solve the murder. Put the questions on the board and the posters around the room.

A differentiated treasure hunt looking at writing and simplifying ratios. Choice of red, amber or green hunt, red is the easiest and green is the most challenging. Red - learners must write the ratio from a picture. Amber - learners simplify 2 part ratios. Green - learners simplify 3 part ratios. Scaffolded support sheet also available for the amber trail. A crime solving, code breaking activity. Revises multiplication, decimal multiplication, division, decimal addition/subtraction and using BIDMAS/BODMAS. Pupils answer 5 sets of questions, each on a different topic. The answers (in order) then become a code. Pupils then refer to the crime solving posters (I normally laminate them and set them around the room) To decode the item stolen, the location, the time of day, the motive and ultimately the criminal. Answers are included on the powerpoint, as is a problem solving starter. The powerpoint and the posters are easily adaptable to change the level of difficulty.

Codebreaker activity, deciding whether a number is in a sequence or not. Pupils chose yes or no then rearrange the letters to give a capital city, The other side is a worksheet where pupils are given the nth term of a sequence and have to either find the term given the term number or vice versa. 3 sequences progressively harder, (positive/negative/quadratic). Easily adaptable and the answers are given.
