For lower ability students. Students are to match the pictures to the captions. A good exercise for consolidating knowledge of the plot when in the early stages of teaching 'Macbeth'.
Students to order the statements after watching the BBC Animated Tales version of the play. They then write the statements onto the correct picture caption on the storyboard. Used for low ability year 7, but ideal for any low ability pupils in the early stages of getting to grips with the plot.

This is a highly differentiated lesson, ideal for an observation, in which students plan and build up a description of an image. Starting by expanding vocabulary, the lesson moves on to developing sentence forms and figurative language.

Students should be split into three groups based on ability. Each group has a different image to focus on, and a different set of success criteria to go with this.

The lesson was originally aimed at a high ability year 7 class, but has since been very useful in developing descriptive writing across a range of year groups.

Planned for a mixed ability Y7 class with know prior knowledge of the play at the beginning of a unit in which they will explore the theme of conflict in Romeo and Juliet. Includes a variety of activities, including a picture task and a vocabulary activity to scaffold students’ understanding of Shakespeare’s langauge in the prologue. On the prologue worksheet students are prompted to establish the key facts about the play and begin delving into analysis of some of Shakespeare’s language. At the end of the lesson, students can show their progress by linking the pictures at the beginning to quotations from the play.
