An essential resource for those who are still using old APP grids.
The New National Curriculum now places an emphasis on assessing spelling in context. Here is a set of sentences for the teacher to dictate including words that cover all the Year 6 spelling patterns and rules. Perfect as an assessment in place of -or in addition to- the traditional spelling test. Perfect for evidence in writing moderations.
Ready to print and use. Useful for Year 6 teachers and Literacy Leaders in particular.

Read Rose Blanche-a beautiful and powerful , high-quality text about a young Jewish girl caught up in the war. The text is available here in the presentation for the Interactive Whiteboard.
Comprehension questions covering all the Content Domains are provided for each section of the book.
These can be used for whole class comprehension or guided reading.
Also included is a model poem using Rose Blanche as an acrostic. This can be discussed and the language features of metaphor, alliteration, powerful verbs and personification can be spotted and highlighted. Children can then use the blank template to write their own poem.

A full set of dictation exercises -covering years 3 to 6 and all the spelling coverage in the New Curriculum. These charts are ready to print and at a glance with no preparation required, you can begin to do regular or half-termly dictations as a meaningful way to assess spellings. This is a desirable way to provide evidence of spelling ability in writing moderations too.
Sentences are carefully matched in content to suit the various year groups and the punctuation used also matches punctuation requirements.

Have you ever suffered writer's block when you are trying to make a comment about a child's reading for teacher assessment? These comment banks provide an easy reference of meaningful teacher comments to form teacher assessment of reading Content Domains. Each domain or skill has a A4 side of comments that are organised in order of difficulty. This means the comment bank is relevant for all KS2 teachers.
Also available is a set of teacher records for these comments to be recorded including Key Objectives for all years 3-6 as well as content domains.

A presentation of -Rose Blanche by Roberto Innocenti-to enjoy and study in years 5/6. It links perfectly with a history study of World War 2. Accompanied by a set of questions to stimulate discussion and form the basis of meaningful comprehension based on a real text. Question types cover all the reading skills required at year 5 and 6 within the New Curriculum. These can be used over a series of guided reading sessions or indeed as a whole class.
A bonus -of course- if you can buy the actual book to handle and enjoy but can stand alone if you use and share the whiteboard presentation. This will print in a clear format on full page setting as an alternative if preferred. Smart Notebook required.

Everything you need to teach an explanation text and /or how the eye works and how we see. Works brilliantly as a Literacy and Science cross-curricular lesson aimed at year 5/6 but easily adapted for years 3/4.
There is a powerpoint, model or WAGOLL text and sentence level work linked to modal verbs and causal conjunctions and other grammar linked to the text type.

Also images are provided for children to rehearse their explanation prior to the writing stage using word mats and appropriate eye terminology. This enhances the quality of the writing every time! I have tried and tested these resources many times and enjoyed the greater depth writing that often is produced ready for any writing moderation.
Children are engaged in the topic and forget how hard they are working at the technical accuracy of the writing process-just as it should be!

Based on the website discussion points from -Just Imagine, I created a set of questions for whole class comprehension or guided reading for Archie's War by Marcia Williams-a superb scrapbook-style autobiography, revealing life in the First World War from the point of view of a child.
The questions cover all the reading skills needed in Key Stage 2 including prediction, inference, fact retrieval, evaluation and clarification of language.
A fun and meaningful system for children to use to improve any sentence and their own pieces of writing using a colour code for elements including similes, adverbs, powerful verbs, clauses, connectives, openers and adjectives.
Tried and tested and graded by Ofsted as Outstanding, this system makes it simple for children to understand what makes a text colourful and effective. It supports children in remembering these essential elements of Grammar by associating them with a colour and then to add these into their drafts to uplevel their work. How many times have you asked children to check their writing against a dull list of success criteria? Try this and watch children enjoy improving their work!
Resources include :
-a full outline of the system and how to introduce it to your class or school
-a demonstration activity on smart notebook to show teachers or children how it works
-a suggested progression for years 3 to 6 to match SPAG requirements in the New Curriculum.

A ready made set of comprehensive questions about the Poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. There are many free versions of the poem itself available on this site and the internet as well as interactive whiteboard versions. These question worksheets divide the poem into 3 lessons with a focus on gathering evidence of a range of reading skills, including inference, clarifying unfamiliar vocabulary and identifying language techniques and their impact on the reader. Useful as a way-in to the poem and perfect for reading teacher assessment.

A complete set of reading targets that match the New Curriculum for years 3-6. Use in guided reading sessions to share up-to-date targets with children.
Key Performance Indicators are colour coded in red and Other Performance Indicators are amber or green. This enabled children to see at a glance which targets to focus on and provides challenge at 3 levels.
Can also be used for self assessment during any Literacy lesson with a reading focus.
Ready to print and use.
Also available-a set of writing targets using the same format-so look out for those.
If you are looking for a fresh approach to whole class comprehension or guided reading, active reading could be what you need. Based on an established and highly recommended approach to teaching reading in an exciting and engaging way, I have created a complete set of activity sheets that can be applied to any text, to encourage children to respond thoughtfully and ACTIVELY!
The resources includes an explanation for you (and your staff if you are a Subject Leader), of all the reading strategies and a record sheet for each strategy which can be printed and used in class right away.
In my experience, this approach is a fun and effective way to tackle comprehension that is a far-cry from 10 boring questions!
A set of sentences for you to print and use with no preparation for dictating and assessing Year 4 statutory spellings. The words match those in the year 3/4 spelling appendix in the new Curriculum-up to date and relevant to current spelling demands.
Perfect for assessment of spelling and can be used half-termly to gather evidence of spelling in context.
Year 3 sentences also available. Other year groups will soon be available.

This resource is based on the Anne Frank story/biography (by J Poole and A Barrett) which makes this powerful tale accessible for year 5 or 6.
The interactive whiteboard presentation can be used to tackle the text as whole class guided or shared reading whilst the questions cover a wide range of comprehension skills. These include APE (answer it, prove it and explain it), inference, summarising and language study questions.

Do you want to improve reading performance in your school? Use these assessment/records to help focus on the new content domains in reading as well as the reading objectives for your year. SATS have changed and if you are still using old AFs you will not be preparing children fully for the new style test.

Teachers could collect cross-curricular evidence as well as reading evidence from their Literacy lessons, selecting relevant Content Domains and Performance Indicators on each record.
There is space for comments to be added that allows teachers to record evidence of reading skills e.g. discussion about vocabulary or oral work.
In addition, the teacher can record a judgement in the form of 1, 2 or 3.
1=some understanding and support needed.
2=growing independence and understanding.
3=worked independently and confidently.

This record will provide excellent evidence to inform any tracking system and for moderation purposes.

Perfect as an assessment in place of -or in addition to- the traditional spelling test. Perfect for evidence in writing moderations. Ready to print and use. Useful for Year 3 teachers and Literacy Leaders in particular.
Here is a useful and effective way of teaching children to improve sentences using a colour-coded system - learning about aspects of Grammar and applying them to the writing process. They can also add in aspects that are missing in their own writing which improves the quality and effect. This gives children something concrete to do when editing and improving that is purposeful, clear and fun to do and they love having a special set of pens!

Perfect for assessment of spelling and can be used half-termly to gather evidence of spelling in context.
Other year groups also available.
Using the words from Appendix 1 document from the 2014 New Curriculum, which specifies words for year 3/4 and years 5/6 that children often misspell (also known as common exception words), I have created a set of record sheets for years 3-6 to enable you to assess which words your children can both read and spell.
Ready to print and use and made manageable by dividing words into sets -a few each half term. A really clear way to assess children individually as the year progresses and a second record can be used to conduct a summative assessment in the Summer term. Useful to inform teacher assessment in reading and spelling and could be used as evidence in moderation.
A set of Writing Targets for each year group (years 3-6) to use for self-assessment. Targets are colour-coded-red targets are based on Key Performance Indicators and amber and green targets are based on Other Performance Indicators.
