<p>This lesson chunks the learning into manageable sections, which develop and get harder as they progress through the tasks. The basis of the lesson is a progress egg. Students work at their own pace during the lesson to work their way up the progress egg. There are also challenge tasks built in as part of the activities.</p>
<p>You can turn this into a competition by getting students to write their name on the board once they have completed a section of the progress egg.</p>

<p>This lesson looks at an example unseen poem. It is based on the song ‘Iron Sky’ by Paolo Nutini. I don’t tell the students that in actual fact it is a song until they have annotated. After they have annotated, we then listen to the poem to see if they can consider any other inferences. (You can play this via YouTube).</p>
<p>It reviews marking criteria, sentence stems as well as the beginning of a modelled answer.</p>
