<p>This is PowerPoint presentation work, so students will need access to computers. This is suitable for a double lesson cover [or two single lessons] or homework. GCSE students are required to show an understanding of the capabilities of their instrument; some understanding of the composer’s intentions regarding cultural influences and the performance venue. They also need to show some understanding of the effect of audience, time and place when performing or composing. This work covers some of the background knowledge they need regarding their instrument and performance techniques. There is an extension task for discussing the relationship between music, and its cultural context, that has been performed over time.<br /> 8 slides are asked for - clear task instructions are provided for each slide, as well as ideas to help students focus in the right area.</p>

Cover work for when you are absent. Task 1 is written work and involves filling in the missing words from a given list. Task 2 is copying and labelling Chinese instruments. Task 3 is an extension task students can do if they have access to the internet - i.e. researching information about the Chinese instruments. Should keep your students busy!

Cover worksheet for Music lessons.

I used this topic initially for Year 8s. However, it was so successful, I tried it out with Year 10 - allowing them to choose the notes they wanted for each roll of the dice. <br /> You will, of course, need enough dice for a class. I got mine online very cheaply.<br /> This is an exercise in varied composition techniques, note values, staff notation and so much more.

A test for entrants into Secondary school Music lessons, to provide a baseline on which to determine progress made. Also included is an End of Year 7 Test, which should show the progress made by the end of the Year.

For KS3. Suitable for all group work in music.

This composition task is for students up to Year 7 and the focus is The Crocodile poem by Roald Dhal. Included is a worksheet, the poem and a self-assessment sheet for student to complete as homework. Students can use any part of the poem to create a descriptive piece of music, using ostinatos, voice and persuasion instruments.

Cover work for when you are out of school.

Two work sheets which can be used either in the lesson or as a cover lesson. You would need to access Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre and Carnival of the Animals, which should be played for this work.

I use this for composition work, much of which is completed using GarageBand, Logic Pro or Sibelius.
