Updated KS1, KS2, Year 1,3 and 4 Writing Assessment Framework Sheets

(0)
This is a copy of the revised assessment sheets following the DfE announcements last week in tabular format.

I have also produced versions of the sheets for years 1,3 and 4 based on my knowledge of the curriculum and training as a writing moderator. They have already been adopted by my county as a model for use in schools.

What I did notice is that from the end of KS1 assessment to KS2 the statement on conjunctions disappears other that the inclusion of one word in the cohesion statement. I've put it in the year 3, 4 and KS2 statements, with degrees of qualification to match the KS1 statement with a footnote to explain why. It's not in the greater depth statements, as with other qualifiers it's assumed that once achieved at 'working at' then it doesn't need evidencing again. This applies with other statements, such as punctuation requirements.

There's no Year 5 sheet because, as I do currently, the end of KS2 sheet is introduced from Year 5. The revised targets are very achievable and giving them to the Y5s is, as ever, aspirational.

KS2 Coordinates and Translation

Great IWB intro to coordinates (have a look at the screenshots of the IWB I uploaded as you can't see it on the normal preview) .

You can either use the first bit to introduce plotting coordinates or carry the IWB on to show translation. The Presentation has some SATs questions to use as a plenary if need be. I was giving this away for free but after 10,000 downloads I figured it's good enough to sell!

KS2 Circles lesson, Outstanding Ofsted (2016), cross-curricular link to the Romans and the Stone Age

A bundle of resources for two circles lessons aimed at KS2, exploring radius, diameter, circumference, drawing circles and even Pi! The lessons both have cross-curricular links to the Romans and the Stone Age.

Have a look at a preview of the screen shots of the IWB to see a sample of the resources I've prepared.

The lesson uses a guided discovery approach which gained a huge amount of praise from an Ofsted inspector when it was delivered and formed part of an overall Outstanding judgement for my primary school in February 2016 (it was also praised for its cross-curricular links). The resources do require a fair amount of time to prep, but the outcome is worth it. There's two main IWBs, one for each topic. Two lesson plans accompany these. There are then various resources to accompany the lessons to print off. Notes at the bottom of the lesson plans give advice on delivery and recommend equipment to use.

KS2 Roman Numerals

Nice IWB on Roman Numerals. Some background about the number system and clear instructions on the rules for creating Roman Numerals. There's on-screen class activities to complete followed by a matching challenge, finding Roman Numerals for different number facts, a clock-face challenge and a Roman/Arabic conversion worksheet. All challenge sheets are printable by changing the background colour. My class found this lesson fun with great learning.

This is an editable version of the exemplar on the bottom of the Standards and Testing Agency document for KS2 SATs. Use it for each pupil, to track progress by writing the title of the genre of work at the top of each column then ticking each box for progress monitoring and ultimately forming assessment. I created it as the STA one was just a PDF. £2 to save a couple of hours work!

Magic Number Halver and Doubler

Great set of IWB pages that has a nifty visual of magically doubling and halving numbers. Simply unlock the panels to change the numbers if you want them higher or lower. There's a set of differentiated questions that can be changed and a blank squared paper sheet to let you model how to set any work out if you intend to ask the class to do written work.

Big Write Reminder Sheet

I display this reminder sheet on my IWB when the class are doing Big Writes. It's in the narrative texts section but it obviously is open to non-fiction work etc. I will remind the class to glance at the page occasionally to make sure they are covering as many bases as possible, especially their own writing targets. It doesn&'t cover everything in writing and I hate the thought of it being too prescriptive but every class I have taught have told me it is useful. Feel free to add/change adapt to particular writing too, I do.
