This is an approximately 6 week SOW for the Edexcel spec of the new English Literature GCSE for first examination in 2017. It is designed so that each powerpoint is about 2 lessons and I taught Year 10 in double lessons last year. It allows students to read through the whole play while working on context, themes, characters and analysing language. It would work for any exam board but just look out for mark schemes etc that are specific to Edexcel. <br /> The first lesson is called 'revision' because the class had done a 'basic' intro to Romeo and Juliet in Year 9. Hopefully it will be a timesaver for people.

We know that 2022 will be a 19th century essay and an autobiography and we also know the writing form will be an article. I couldn’t find any papers like this so I made up my own. I hope you find it useful and time-saving!</p>

This is a full (approx. 5 week) SOW for the Edexcel specification of the English Language GCSE - 19th Century Fiction and Imaginative Writing. It includes all powerpoints and extracts and represents quite a substantial amount of work that should save you hours! I have uploaded as is from my PC so there may be some errors and obviously it may have dates for homework etc that are no longer relevant. I taught this by alternating a few fiction lessons with imaginative writing ones to break up the 19th Century stuff and that is how it is presented here. My high ability class engaged with it very well. I hope you find it useful. Obviously you will want to adapt to your own teaching style but hopefully it will be a big timesaver for you.<br /> The powerpoints are numbered in the order I taught them (as stated I alternated between 19th Century fiction and imaginative writing lessons) - all resources and extracts etc are also included but because of the way I had to upload them you may have to search. Please message me if anything's missing - I haven't uploaded any video but I also showed my class the film of Jane Eyre as a 'treat' and the schmoop analysis of it on Youtube which can be easily found.<br /> As all GCSEs have these elements in now it may also be suitable for other exam boards but just watch out for any markschemes etc which may be specific to Edexcel.

This is a full SOW for teaching Jekyll and Hyde. It is strongly based on the Edexcel spec using those markschemes but may be relevant for other specs following the same AOs. A big timesaver!

This is a lesson designed for a higher ability class and was planned for an observation. It focuses on ambitious sensory language and the students really enjoyed it. It includes support and challenge and 'ticks the boxes' for an observed lesson! It will need updating (talk of levels and lettered grades rather than 1-9 for GCSE) but this would be minimal work for a well-planned lesson that will save you lots of time and that gets results.

A selection of resources for teaching An Inspector Calls based on the new Edexcel Spec. I begin by teaching context with a research project for a week or two then teach the play through these powerpoints. I finish the term with a speaking and listening presentation for fun but also as a practise for the speaking and listening endorsement. Hope you find them time-saving and useful.

<p>An engaging lesson which looks at Carol Ann Duffy’s poem Valentine and then uses the ideas and techniques to write their own Valentine’s Day poem to put in a card and deliver to their chosen recipient!</p>

<p>This is a useful break down of each exam, questions with AOs and also guidance for teachers of what to concentrate on at the end. We give one to every Year 10 and 11 student at the beginning of each year.</p>

<p>This is a fully resourced double revision lesson (at least two hours worth) for the Edexcel 9-1 English Language exams. It takes students through a reminder of the structure of each exam, the mark schemes and tips on how to answer. It also includes practice questions and extracts. It is written by an Edexcel examiner so all content is based on excellent understanding of how the mark scheme is applied. I hope it’s useful - of course some content may need editing and adapting but should save a lot of time as a basic structure for revision lessons.</p>

<p>This is for the Edexcel Relationships Poetry cluster in the Edexcel English Literature Paper 2 (9-1) An introductory lesson, powerpoint for each poem in the collection (except Neutral Tones as it won’t let me upload no matter what I do!) and a lesson on how to structure from an Edexcel examiner (me). All based on the downloadable resources on the Edexcel website and intended to be a time-saving resource to use and adapt according to your own teaching style. Any worksheets referred to can usually be found on the Edexcel website under the poetry SOW there.</p>

<p>This is an engaging activity where students work in groups of 6. |They move around the tables and are timed for 15 minutes on each activity. Each activity is based on a longer question from the language examination. We have 55 minute lessons in our school and this takes up 2 lessons with at least 2 afterwards for feeding back and discussing each question. My Year 11s are much more engaged by this than doing endless full timed questions.</p> <p>Although this is Edexcel it can be adapted for other specs.</p>

<p>This is a revision activity where students split into 6 groups and move round tables which each have a different task on linked to a question in the literature exam. They have 15 minutes on each task which keeps them engaged (as much as possible!</p> <p>This takes up 2 lessons in my school (3 in each lesson) with at least two afterwards for feeding back and modelling top answers etc.</p>

<p>This is a menu I devised with activities that hit every AO for the Lang and Lit exams (Edexcel but can be adapted). It also includes ‘reward’ activities to promote student wellbeing and ensure rests are taken! The students shade in at least one activity from each section to ensure they have covered all of th AOs. This has been very popular with Year 11 in my school!</p>

<p>This is something I created to keep engagement but still revise the skills for every part of the exam (some of the literature activities are specific to the set texts we are doing (R&amp;J, AIC and Jekyll and Hyde/ACC) but you can adapt. The premise is:<br /> Set up 6 ‘stations’ and put an activity on each one. Small groups move round each station and have 15 minutes on each, doing the activity as a group. This should take 2 lessons for Lang and 2 for Lit - another lesson (or 2, or 3) can be spent sharing their answers, improving, answering full exam questions based on plans they have made etc etc. Much more engaging than just practice questions with the short time limit and element of group work.</p>

<p>This handout basically breakdowns the structure of each paper in both Edexcel Language and Literature. It gives a breakdown of each question, what format it will be in and what percentage of each Assessment Objective is tested.</p> <p>Useful to give to students at the beginning of a GCSE course and also as revision at the end!</p>

<p>A powerpoint based on an activity from the National Poetry Day website where students create a poem step by step based on the meanings of their name. All ideas and resources for this were found on the National Poetry Day website, I have simply put them together and adapted them in powerpoint form for convenience.</p>
