This game is the classic " I have... Who has ...? " game, designed to practice the main feelings and emotions in Spanish. This is an easy-to-play game and a great way to practice essential language concepts with the whole class. As students match up the answers on their cards with questions on other students’ cards, they get valuable practice with vocabulary, as well as reading and listening skills. Directions: Cut out the cards along the dotted line and laminate. For bigger classes, you might want to print several copies of each set. Give out all the cards in the set to the students. It is important to use all the cards. Choose a student to go first. I usually do that by a counting rhyme (for example, En la casa de Pinocho, solo cuentan hasta ocho, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) Have the selected student read the question at the bottom of the card aloud and then put the card down. The student who has the card with the answer then reads that answer aloud. This student will then read the question at the bottom of their card and put the card down. Play continues in this fashion until all of the cards have been played. The game will end with the same student who started play. Every card in the set is connected to a card before it and a card after it. To keep the game moving at a quick pace, all students need to pay attention to every question that’s asked. I tell my younger students that this is a magic game and that the magic only works if you pay attention, which is actually true. The magic happens in the end, when the question on the last card actually matches the answer on the very first card. Enjoy!

Analyzing the birthday party planner allows students to explore different types of numbers, such as, the fractions through the distribution of foods, the decimal numbers and percentages through the invoice. This learning experience is part of the Math Unit of Inquiry titled “The Birthday Party Plan”. Its purpose is to assess prior knowledge and gather data and evidence of previous learning to inform planning.

The learning experience “From Tens to Tenths” guides learners to understand the role of the decimal point and the relationship between tenths, hundredths, and thousandths, connect the fractional representation to the decimal representation and explore decimal place value. Learners are provided with the place value chart, a set of number patterns, and blocks patterns. They are required to go over inquiry steps to discover how the pattern is the number system extends. First, they take a guess on what they think the answer to the question might be. Second, they observe the given number and block patterns. Third, they search for patterns and make predictions in terms of the patterns you found. Fourth, they look at the result you found and evaluate your hypothesis. Fifth and finally, they discuss your results and what they found out. They can use drawings and models to present their ideas.

In this activity, students are asked to apply their understanding regarding the part-whole relationship by spotting the mistake of six representations of given models. Each model is made up of six representations of the one in the middle. Only one hexagon is not equivalent to others. Students have to find it and justify their answers by using different representations.

Give your students these number cards and let them think about decimal numbers in a variety of ways; comparing, representing, adding, etc.

This learning experience is an open-ended activity that encourages imagination amongst children as they learn more about fractions and activate their prior knowledge.
