Origami Team Building Exercise

I have used this activity many times with a range of students of all ages and it always works well. I have recently updated the style of it. Working in groups or pairs, one learner will describe the origami instructions to the other learner/s, the other learners will make the origami which is being described to them. The learners making the origami will not get to see what they are making which means the ones doing the describing really have to work on their communication skills, At the end of the task they can reflect on how well the task went. This is a fun activity which works on team building and communication skills. You will need to provide square pieces of paper to your learners for this task. For best results and to stop having to reprint, I recommend laminating the origami instructions! This activity can last as long as you want it to last, I usually let the students take turns in being the instructor or the maker. Have fun with this lesson and let me know how it goes by leaving a review, I would be very grateful! :)

Language Through Colour Sentence Building

(0)
Language through color" is a innovative speech and language design that leverages colors as a visual strategy to aid in teaching the components of a sentence. By assigning specific colors to different parts of speech and elements within a sentence, this approach helps children comprehend and categorize words, facilitating independent sentence construction. The use of color allows children to organize and understand language more effectively, empowering them to construct sentences with greater ease and confidence. The technique employs a color-coded system to categorize various linguistic elements, enhancing children’s grasp of language structures. This strategy is adaptable and can be utilized in diverse educational settings, catering to children with a range of abilities. It serves as an accessible and user-friendly resource, providing crucial assistance to those who require additional support in both speaking and sentence formation. This resources comes with five distinct stages, progressively advancing to help children develop more sophisticated sentence-building skills and improved communication abilities. Through the systematic integration of colors and language, “language through color” cultivates a stimulating learning environment, promoting language development and fostering effective communication in young learners.

Building Resilience Assembly!

This assembly aims to assist children in becoming resilient learners who are more willing to approach tasks, keep trying when tasks become difficult, and learn from their mistakes. I love giving this assembly because I feel that the key message within it is so vital. More importantly, wherever I have given this assembly (to a wide-range of students from a wide-range of contexts) it has always gone down extremely well, with students being extremely engaged and informing me of their increased resilience in the months that follow! The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Andy Murray, JK Rowling and a host of other successful people in the public eye who have needed to overcome difficulties. There is also a hyperlink to a music video which utilises a ‘Rude Goldberg Machine’ which has been painstakingly set up, through months of set-backs and sticking points, to achieve an extraordinary result. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!
