Welcome to the 'Let’s Talk in Danish!

This set of cards looks at 57 different settings. The teacher describes something in the top card. The students then use this to model a sentence using the bottom set of pictures. There are lots of things to see and describe in every picture. When the students have completed this task, they can repeat it by working in pairs to discuss each picture.

What works very well is for the two pictures to be directly projected on a wall. The teacher talks about the top picture, such as 'In my picture, I can see two seagulls flying.'... then the students model their responses, using the sentence structure provided by the teacher.
Christmas Around the World

Create either a cute little Danish Elf or Santa with this unique crafting idea from Denmark. This is a Danish Elf Craft that I use to make with my Grandmother at Christmas. Bring a little Scandinavian Christmas Traditions into your classroom. As a child, we would hang these Elf’s from our Christmas tree, the rafters in the barn, sit the them on a shelf or on tops of bottles. This continues to be a Christmas tradition in my house…my kids love making them!

These Elf crafts are great for developing fine motor skills such as: folding, coloring, painting, gluing, cutting, listening and following directions.

These units are designed in a Mix and Match format. You are able to pick the pieces that you want, depending on the needs and the abilities of your students…so many possibilities.

This unit can be approached in several ways. Either as a quick Christmas craft that will take about 90 minutes to complete. Or as long, in-depth project that will take upwards of a week or two to complete. In my classroom, creating the basic lantern will take my kiddos about 90 minutes (coloring and assembly). I always teach each step of the process in isolation.

Included:
• Printed Elf lantern templates
• Danish traditions information
• Check out the preview to see everything included!
The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

Welcome to the Let’s Write in Danish! pack.

It comes complete with a 31 Teaching Activity Teacher Guide to help you get the most out of your teaching and this purchase.

There are lots of ways of using this teaching pack. It could be used as writing assessment for students learning Danish. The students could write about a topic in Danish before starting a unit, and then write again about the topic, using the second worksheet at the end of the topic to see how much they have progressed.

It could also be used as an introduction to guided writing. Students can write sentences as a class and share the sentences together and they can then write them on their own. Alternatively, students could work in pairs - one student dictates to the other what to write down about what they see in the picture.

These pages could also be used to write different stories, using the pictures as a stimulus.

Asger Jorn in his quotes - the Danish artist on painting, his artistic life & ideas - free resource for pupils, students and teachers in Eurpean art history

.
Asger Jorn’s artist quotes give an impression of the ideas and characteristics of the Danish artist, searching for expressive and spontaneous painting art. The mythological world of Scandinavian history was his great inspiration.

As starting artist Jorn was co-founder (during the war period in Denmark - German occupation) of the Danish underground art-group, ‘Helhesten’ (Hell-horse). He became active contributor to its journal. Some quotes of Jorn are taken from these texts.

In 1941, Jorn wrote his key theoretical art-essay, ‘Intimate Banalities’. Many quotes of this pronounced art-statement are taken from this essay. He criticized Surrealism - on the other hand, Jorn uses the ideas and techniques of former Surrealism. From 1947 Jorn was an leading artist in the new European COBRA art movement - with artists from Denmark, The Netherlands and Belgium.
.
Some selected artist-quotes of Asger Jorn - as short introduction of his extended quotes in the PDF:

’The great work of art is the complete banality, and the fault with most banalities is that they are not banal enough. Banality here is not infinite in its depth and consequence, but rests on a foundation of spirituality and aesthetics.’ - quote, from Asger Jorn’s text: ‘Intime Banaliteter’, in Helhesten 1 (1941), p. 75 - 79

’Beautiful, ugly, impressive, disgusting, meaningless, grim, contradictory etc… .It makes no difference, as long as it is life, vigorously pouring forth.’ - Jorn’s quote, from his text: ‘Ansigt til Ansigt’ (Face to Face), A-5, 1 (1944), p. 14

’(My own goal is) to be completely empty of ideas at the moment of setting brush to canvas, the head being just as empty as the canvas’.’ - Jorn’s quote: from a conversation with Pierre Loeb, circa 1946; as cited on the website of the Jorn Museum
