This activity is part of the Functional Skills Maths at Entry Stage 2 but can be used for Early Years and primary maths. Suitable for the complete beginner and for learners who struggle with numeracy. The 2 page resource contains explanations and examples on how to find half and double followed by 2 tasks with answers. There is also an explanation on using thirds and quarters.

Activities to support teaching of doubling and halving. Used in a year 1 class, but can easily be adapted for younger & older children.

Lesson 1 - I put children into pairs and gave them a bowl of 20 skittles. They had to follow the questions on the sheet, divide the skittles into groups and write the division sentences. Lesson 2 - Children will move on from practical aids to pictorials where the children draw the objects and share them into each jar.

This is perfect for young children learning how to double and halve numbers.

In this resource you can find two worksheets. Students have to complete the Domino Set and the Table by doubling and halving the numbers shown. The first worksheet can also be laminated. Cut the domino set and the students can write the double or half of the number shown with a whiteboard marker.
