Foundation Subjects Tracking without Levels

(4)
This is the perfect partner to my Primary Assessment and Tracking without Levels resource (see link below). Here are six separate spreadsheets, for years 1-6, to assess: History, Geography, ICT, Art, DT, RE, PE and MFL (French: years 3-6 only - objectives could apply to Spanish or German etc). Simply enter pupils' names onto 'overview' sheet and you are ready to go. Enter numbers 1,2 or 3 for each objective on the different sheets: 1 = Working towards objective (W); 2 = Met objective (M); 3 = Exceeding objective (E); a zero can also be entered if necessary. Once filled in, an average will be calculated for each pupil and this will also appear on the overview sheet for viewing and printing. Easy to use, shouldn't take hours and hours of work and is an excellent (not to mention cheap) solution to tracking progress in foundation subjects. The spreadsheets are password protected to prevent accidental deletion of important cells. Password can be found in instructions document so you adapt objectives to your school's needs if necessary. Please, leave feedback for this amazing resource. LOTF Exemplar Essay: Simon as different from the other boys on the island

(0)
Here is an example response to the GCSE English Lord of the Flies question:** How does Golding present Simon as different from the other boys on the island?** I found writing a few full-length and timed essays before the exam was a good way to practise and boosted my confidence on the day, one of the revision techniques I employed to achieve a Grade 9 in English Literature and Language GCSEs. This document is one of the practice essays I wrote out, feel free to use this to take a look at the structure and approach I use at GCSE English level (I sat AQA, but this works across exam boards), and to consider my analysis of ideas. I recommend planning if not writing out the essay before, and comparing approaches (but if you just want to read it, go ahead!) The key ideas of my essay: Plan: Less driven to violence, is the only character who doesn’t commit a savage act - refer to piggy and ralph involved in the murder although he is flawed, fire and attracted to ralph He is presented as insightful with knowledge about humanity and morality which the other characters don’t have - piggy Writing full essays is time consuming and tiring, especially when balancing many other subjects at the same time, so I recommend planning out as many essays as you can, and writing in full 5-10 of them closer to the exam date. A good essay structure is TEAL: Topic sentence (just state what your point is, no evidence or explanation) Evidence (not just quotes! you could reference moments in the book, themes, etc etc) Analysis (explain your evidence, what does it show, and how does it show this?) Link (link back to your topic sentence and key question to show the examiner you’re not off-track - they get tired marking essays so you need to keep your ideas clear!) When** planning your essays**, I suggest writing down: three topic sentences 2-3 pieces of evidence for each topic sentence a couple words analysing the evidence, linking back to the main question and topic sentence then writing an introduction and conclusion (if you want to - I personally found intros and conclusions hard to keep concise, so I practiced this frequently) If you have any questions do let me know, and please leave a review if you found this helpful!

It is a subject knowledge audit tool for KS3 and KS4 (based on 2016 GCSE content) that produces a visual map of where subject and pedagogical knowledge is strong and where this needs further work. Its use should be self-explanatory; be sure to note the comments attached to some cells (red triangles) and look at the tab marked "KS4 key to content".

An intelligent mind map that allows students and teachers to make links within subjects/topics and effectively display learning. Students can complete electronically on a computer or the resource can be printed A4 or A3 ***Important -To further STRETCH and CHALLENGE students - Ask students to write only key words and phrases in the boxes and then write ALONG the lines short explanations as to how key words and topics link Works particularly well as: Revision tool - units of work can go in the first initial 4 boxes and then specific lessons/topics can go in the linked boxes An accompanying worksheet to a video - as students watch a video they can analyse and think “what are the key points/words of the video” and “how do the key points/words link to each other.” As a plenary exercise. Ask students to categorise, analyse and and link the keywords they have learnt for the lesson or last few lessons. Ray Head of Department

Students Create a Quiz - Ready-linked PowerPoint template and Peer Assessment ANY SUBJECT!

(0)
It's a great idea, at the end of a topic or unit, to get students to create their own quizzes. They can then complete one another's to test their understanding or to revise a topic. I've created a PowerPoint template for students to be given to produce a quiz. The PowerPoint is fully linked because the main purpose of this type of activity is the questions and the answers, not the linking together! This also means this activity lends itself to ANY SUBJECT and a range of year groups. There are ten question spaces, students can easily use 'duplicate slide' to add more questions though. As an extension, whilst other students complete their work, students can improve the look of their quiz or add further elements. This activity comes with a peer assessment sheet - the idea being that students should be given the opportunity to complete one another's quizzes (further recapping and revising a topic) and 'rate' them on various criteria. This sheet is in word format, should teachers wish to add to or amend the criteria. As the sheet is editable, it could be used for other peer assessment evidence - as you're paying for this resource it's worth adapting to get the best value for money!! Overall, a fun activity leading to quite an interactive peer assessment activity. Teachers don't need to be skilled in the IT behind the linking/functions of the quiz - just make it available on a shared drive for students to take a copy of before completing it! Enjoy.
