Case study at a local scale of a specified place in a hazardous setting

(1)
AQA Geography A level hazards resource. This is a model answer for the essay question below: With reference to a local scale of a specific place in a hazardous setting, assess the extent to which the physical nature of hazards can shape the character of a community and its ability to respond to risk. (20 marks) I have written this question and model answers to help students revise this section of the course: Case study at a local scale of a specified place in a hazardous setting to illustrate the physical nature of the hazard and analyse how the economic, social and political character of its community reflects the presence and impacts of the hazard and the community’s response to the risk. Having looked at the textbooks for the section, I felt that the materials on offer were not very effective. Therefore, I have created this document with a model question and answer as well as supporting web links that have maps and diagrams that can be effectively used to create an ‘analyse’ type question. This resource has been seen by an AQA advisor who confirms that it effectively teaches this element of the course. This resource will require a one hour lesson and homework to teach with.

Local study Traffic 4 worksheets. KS2.

Local study Traffic problems set of 4 worksheets. KS2. Worksheet 1: Pupil traffic survey for pupils to investigate traffic flow on a street nearest to their school (morning, lunchtime, afternoon). The worksheet is simple to use with pictures for easy completion. Pupils count using a tally. Great for small group with an adult. I used this and gave a different group of 6 the task on a specific day of the week. All pupils had a chance to carry out the survey. By the end of the week, we had a picture of the road traffic problems over the course of a week at three different times of the day. Was great for comparison work. Worksheet 2: A set of follow up questions stemming from the survey plus 4 questions asking pupils their opinions about the road after the survey eg how safe do you feel riding a bike on this road? Worksheet 3: Problems caused by traffic through a picture/phrase matching task. Worksheet 4: Improving traffic issues by using road signs in town centres. Links well with work on Cities, Transport, Local Study.

DISTANCED LEARNING GCSE Ecosystems - Local Case Study Landguard (Lesson + Resources)

(0)
3rd lesson in the GCSE Living world topic - This is designed to me completed at home via distance learning. **Topic: Local Ecosystem Case Study ** This is for Landguard Point, Felixstowe but lesson structure could be adapted to locality. WORKBOOK - POWERPOINT - ANSWER BOOKLET To be used with GCSE Geography AQA Student Book (GCSE Geography AQA 2016) by Simon Ross and Nick Rowles **LESSON PLAN: ** Review Questions - these look at last week’s work. Try and answer these (on paper) WITHOUT looking at your notes first to test your knowledge and then use your notes to answer. Landguard is a nature reserve in Felixstowe. It is an actual example of how changes can effect an ecosystem. At GCSE we call these case studies. These are really important because the 9 mark questions are where you need to know about them. Use your booklet and the internet to add notes to the location map of Landguard. Build up the table on the structure of Landguard’s ecosystem using PP. Look at the species table and see if you can find some food chains, colour code. How could the ecosystem at Landguard change? Look at each image and come up with ideas. Then use card sort to fill in the spaces on the diagram sheet Threats to Landguards ecosystem card sort and add to table. Application 6 mark question on changes - use thew help to answer it!
