<p>The booklet contains fun activities and accessibly poems for KS2, KS3, KS4.</p>
<p>The booklet encourages pupils to enjoy poetry without analysis and to write similar poetry of their own.</p>
<p>National Poetry Day KS1 and KS2 Assembly.<br />
A simply written whole school assembly to cover the main aspects of National Poetry Day which can be used in the days preceding or on 3rd October.<br />
Power-point of 27 slides which include:<br />
Suggested music, video clip and hymns.<br />
Short poetry task using suggestions from the pupils after listening to an audio sound effect. (Teacher instructions included in red).<br />
What are poems?<br />
5 short poems or extracts to demonstrate 5 different poetry structures.<br />
Using figurative language and example extracts from poems. (alliteration, simile etc)<br />
About National Poetry Day and the theme of ‘counting’ and some ideas to explore including song link ‘Count on me’ Bruno Mars.<br />
Some ideas that people may do on National Poetry Day plus three suggestions for your school (class, individual and whole school).<br />

<p>In this resource students follow through the instructions that you read out to create their own poem.</p>
<p>It would make a great activity for National Poetry Day, or as an introductory lesson to poetry. It’s lots of fun to do and pupils tend to enjoy it!</p>
<p>It is best suited to a KS3 class and works for all abilities, but could be used for any class really (I have used it with KS5 who loved it!)</p>

<p>National Poetry Day reading comprehension pack. A detailed 2 page article that provides an overview of National Poetry Day and includes differentiated comprehension questions that focus on reading skills and language and structure analysis.</p>

<p><em>Happy National Poetry Day!</em></p>
<p>A ready to use unit based on this year’s theme: The Environment. This unit contains activities linked to three poems which feature on the NPD official website: Daisy Chain, Litter is Rubbish and Being True to Yourself. Pupils will learn about some poetic techniques and be given chances to apply this learning to little bursts of poetry before embarking on their final piece of poetry for this year’s event.</p>
<p>A free resource to share on National Poetry day that includes a variety of activities at different levels for KS2 primary, using famous poems. Activities become gradually harder as you work through the booklet. Ideal for a one off lesson or as a homework booklet/home-learning/tutoring resource.</p>
A structured comprehension on 'The Sea' by James Reeve and a word mat to prompt discussion of any poem. Suitable for upper KS2 and KS3.<br />
For differentiation, you can select which questions children complete, or for group discussion you can use the poetry word mat.<br />
The session started by discussing the poem and finding examples of poetic techniques, such as rhyme, alliteration, onomatopoeia, assonance and sibilant sounds. We discussed the change in the three verses.<br />
For extension, pupils could either write a river metaphor (see river metaphor poem ), or alternatively find points of comparison between the river and a different things (see worksheet).
<p>An easy competition to run this National Poetry Day 2021.</p>
<p>Students read the cento, focusing on this year’s theme of choice and then guess how many poems it is made from - the answer is 12!</p>
<p>This is made as a PowerPoint to celebrate National Poetry Day but could also be used for tutor time literacy, intervention work or as a fun poetry club activity. Students are asked to look at circle poems with the theme of the environment in mind. This is a fun and versatile activity for all students.</p>

This detailed presentation analyses language and puctuation features at word level, there is dictionary work and a range of poetry or creative writing tasks linked to the poem for the pupils to choose from.
