Updated for 2023-24. In this lesson students will explore the intricacies of employment law and how it applies to the everyday person in a variety of situations. They will also investigate how the Equality Act is applied in the workplace, by putting themselves in the position of an employer considering new candidates.<br />

<p>I have used this lesson successfully with my Year 10 and Year 11 classes when teaching employee rights in the workplace as part of the legislation (external influences) topic for GCSE Business.</p>
<p>The content of this lesson resource is designed to cover the following learning aims</p>

<li>Explain what a contract of employment is</li>
<li>Produce a poster advising employees about their rights in the workplace</li>

<p>This lesson will also help to develop students’ analysis and evaluation skills through the use of a judgement style question about the importance of particular employee rights in the workplace.</p>

<p>This is an introduction to the Edexcel GCSE Citizenship course with an introduction to the difference between moral and legal rights, legal rights and human rights.
