A set of 27 stem sentences to help take your children’s maths talk deeper.

Sentence stems can be used when students are:
engaging in a math discussion with a peer.
practicing the use of academic language.
sharing their thoughts on how to solve a particular problem.
reflecting on a math concept recently learned.

Vocabulary is incredibly important in Maths and often children can struggle to articulate their understanding coherently. Through introducing these stem sentences, children will start to become more confident and able to explain, justify and prove their mathematical understanding.

These clear and vibrant stem sentences can be easily printed off and added to your working wall/ display. There are 3 colours available for you to choose from: Red, blue and green. If you would like a different colour, leave me a message please.

Thank you.

In this race against the clock students work as a team to build the highest tower possible out of dried spaghetti and marshmallows.

The objective of this lesson is to explore structures and investigate what methods of building can make the tallest and strongest structure. By testing their prototype buildings, students will also have the opportunity to rebuild and alter their designs to improve them, giving an insight into the real-life processes of testing, redevelopment and prototyping that engineers and scientists use.

Lego challenge cards, symbol supported for non / early readers. Some are Christmas themed as I’ve just made them to try and keep my children busy during this last week.

Children choose or are given a card which gives an instruction - e.g. build a Christmas tree / first letter of your name and use Lego to build as instructed.

It’s a fairly open ended activity but my hope is to provide more structure and purpose to play for my children with autism as some have very short attention spans and flit from activity to activity without any meaningful engagement.

24 cards in all, best printed onto card or laminated so they last.
