Measure Shapes and Space card sort

I have been using this board and card sort set for confirming understanding and peer learning with Functional skills students for over 6 years now and it works really well I have also used this for fun GCSE revision, they took me a good while to create.

What's in the set?
An A3 Board for the cards Each board holds 12 matching pairs Ideally you would laminate the boards (3/4 needed) and the cards 84 in total (42 sets)

Total cards 42 and 42 matching answers/descriptions to questions

All brightly coloured with the backs, ready to print fold over and laminate, they are in a word format so you can edit them or change them as you wish, each back has a set number (use find and replace) to change the set number, so you can print off a few sets, saves them getting mixed up

I usually do these for groups of two or three students to promote peer learning, split the cards up as you wish for different sessions, takes a while printing but worth the effort, great for encouraging team activities

What's on the cards?
42 in total all around measure/shape with 42 responses/answers to match each card
Naming shapes (most shapes)
Area questions
Perimeter questions
Some volume questions
Parts of circles
Net diagrams

This is a good resource to use as an activity or to confirm understanding at the end of a session, good fun, can be used with lots of ages depending on the programme they are working towards from Entry level 3 to Level 2 functional skills, primary or GCSE, great revision activity.
.
Thanks for taking the time to read about this, should you decide to use this resource please leave feedback, I would be happy to hear from you

Since the introduction of Functional Skills exams as an alternative to typical GCSE, the resources for the curriculum have been scarce or vague…Until now!
With several hours of work and through the help of governmental and Pearson specifications, I have created a lesson PowerPoint containing everything that needs to be covered and understood for functional skills maths level 1 in Number. There are aspects of the slides I haven’t made myself

This lesson powerpoint includes all the content for the Functional Skills Maths level 2 syllabus of number. Dinosaur Footprints Math Investigation: Shape, Space, and Measure - Outdoor Maths

(0)

Dinosaurs and math. What’s not to love! For this activity your students will walk like dinosaurs as they draw different species footprints onto card using their scaling and measuring skills before cutting the footprints out, strapping it to their own feet, and walk like the dinosaurs.

This outdoor math activity is great if you’re looking at measuring, scaling up, and ratio.

Teaching structure:

Explain that they will be investigation the size of dinosaurs feet. Go through the Google Slides to help to introduce the activity.

Assign each student (or pair) a foot to go off and draw to scale either on card or on the playground using chalk (if you choose chalk on the playground you obviously can’t strap it to their feet!).

Give the students time to look at each others dinosaur feet and compare them.

This activity has two levels of differentiation.

Diff. 1: Students simply read the measurements and draw the foot.

Diff. 2: Students must first work out the true size by using the scale.

There is an extension sheet where they will figure out the body and leg length based on the size of footprint.

Enjoy outdoor learning? Check out our outdoor home learning pack!

Please don’t forget to rate this resource to let us know what you think.

Also be sure to visit my store and FOLLOW ME to see my new products and hear about upcoming sales!
