A comprehensive and engaging one hour lesson to help students to improve their group discussion skills. This lesson looks at two short examples of discussions and asks students to explicitly label what techniques are being used and how the chairperson is moving the discussion forward. The lesson ends with students completing a short discussion on the topic of ‘which subject should be removed from the timetable?’ They then self-reflect upon this using the success criteria that they created earlier. Start Listening A and B are excellent for those pupils with poor auditory and concentration skills. The differentiated tasks suit a range of abilities. The activities are carefully structured, enabling those who find listening difficult to develop their confidence and listening skills. This book involves colouring and drawing to instruction, and identifying whether or not sentences are reasonable. A further book is available: book B uses sentences and stories to focus on auditory memory. Previously sold through Easylearn.

This PowerPoint presentation provides the necessary information for years 10-11 to plan and complete their speaking and listening assessment. This PowerPoint is aimed at the EDUQAS spec, but could be very easily amended if the criteria were changed for a different specification. I use this presentation as an introduction to S&L and then let the students complete research on the computer to start creating their presentations.
