Like many primary school teachers I have tried a variety of handwriting schemes with varying degrees of success. Having thought through many common problems with handwriting I have developed a simple scaffold that places a bubble either side of the line to support letter formation. This simple scaffold provides a guide to consistently form cursive letters and ensure each letter is uniform in both height and width. Children are able to leave equal spaces between words and see clearly whether or not there is enough space at the end of each line for the next word they intend to write. I am thrilled to be able to offer these resources for those working in Welsh speaking schools or teaching Welsh as an additional language. Included is a PowerPoint of common words starting with each letter of the Welsh alphabet and a variety of different scaffold sheets for children to work on in a range of different sizes to suit your needs. I have also included yellow bubble scaffold sheets that enables children working in pencil to be able to see their writing more clearly.

This unit introduces children to the conventions of a myth through the story of Dwynwen. They are then challenged to write their own Welsh myth by choosing character and problem cards as stimulus for their writing.

PowerPoint lesson introduction to writing "Mini Myths." Children will write short mythical stories where the aim is to write within a specified word count. I teach in Wales so my lesson was centred around Welsh myths (Curriculum Cymreig!) but the resources can be easily adapted to myths from any period/culture. This was an observed lesson and it received very positive feedback

I send this worksheet home with Tedi Twt’s story sack every Friday for the weekend. The children write the name of the Tedi Twt book that they read, and answer the questions. We share the worksheet and talk about Tedi Twt’s weekend on Monday during news.

Rainbow writing resource containing all of the letters of the English alphabet. This is to be used to help children with their letter formation. Each letter has a few pictures to spark discussion and help children with what words start with that letter. The clouds contain the letter in big bubble writing. Children are to layer the different colours here to practice forming the letters with guidance. They then have 5 lines to practice forming independently, starting with red on the top line, orange on the next line, green, blue and purple. This resource is a Welsh medium resource. It helps children to practice the Welsh language in English medium schools. The children would ask some children what they like and don’t like and they would then write down their responses in 3rd person. This helps children to use the Welsh language through speaking and writing.
