Instructions are on the sheet for pupils. A choice based homework task to set at the beginning of a half term, allowing pupils to choose their own task each week. Focused on skills of researching, creativity and reading and writing. A word document so that it can be edited to suit different topics and tasks can be altered slightly.
Here is a blockbusters style quiz based on children’s books which has questions based around book titles and characters. It is aimed for children reading at KS2 level due to book titles but most are common knowledge. There is a powerpoint with the blockbusters game and instructions and then a teacher sheet which provides 3-4 questions and answers for each letter on the game grid. All can be edited if needed.
Question bank for each letter of the alphabet n the style of Blockbusters to help students develop tier 2 vocabulary. Also includes an interactive display of the blockbusters board.
For those who didn’t watch the show in the eighties, divide the class into 2 teams and move the hexagon onto the corresponding letter when a question is answered correctly.
A fun way to exercise the use of conjunctions without a worksheet! Can your class make it across the board from left to right using the conjunctions in spoken or written sentences. Play it in pairs, as a whole class or as individuals.
Instructions:
Present the slide in full slideshow mode and click the hexagon to change its colour. (NOTE: you must click on the hexagon below each word in order to select it)
Includes:
Year 2 conjunctions
Year 3 conjunctions
Subordinates conjunctions
Editable version to create your own
Perfect for revision! Use the numbers or you could replace them with letters or type in questions. If the team gets it correct then click their colour and it will change automatically.
These A-Z quizzes are perfect for using with any of the Blockbusters templates that are freely available online.
The quizzes cover An Inspector Calls, Jekyll & Hyde, and Power and Conflict poetry.
Can also be adapted into written A-Z quizzes for pupils to tackle individually.
Perfect as cover or end of term fun.
Covering Of Mice and Men, Heroes and An Inspector Calls, these sheets follow the structure of the game Blockbuster. Students have to complete tasks on each text and work their way across the “board”.
Three sheets covering Of Mice and Men, An Inspector Calls and Heroes based on the game Blockbuster. Students have to work their way from one side of the board to the other, completing tasks based on the texts.
These are the resources needed to adapt a Blockbuster Game so that when pupils play it they can talk about their books and reading habits.
This resources includes:
Blockbuster instructions
Blockbuster A-Z cards (you will need two copies) - the front of the question cards
Blockbuster Question Cards - these are the back of the question cards
Dice colours - these can be stuck onto a wooden dice.
You will need a physical copy of the Blockbuster game to make this game up.
Using the template of the famous Blockbusters Game, think of 25 questions relating to the topic you are looking to review. Students in two teams pick a number and you read out the corresponding question. Click on the white hexagon to flash the number.
If the yellow team are correct, click the white hexagon once to turn it yellow.
If the blue team are correct, click the white hexagon twice to turn it blue.
If you make a mistake and click too many times, just click blue hexagon to bring it back.
Like the classic TV quiz, a short starter testing knowledge of characters in Anthony Horowitz' 'Groosham Grange'
Instructions for use in seperate word file
This game is for two or two pairs of players sitting opposite. You need a set of counters in different colours for each player. Shuffle the word definition cards and place them in a pile face down.
You are going to cross the board from left to right.
Take it in turns to pick a word definition card from the pile. If you can think of a word that uses a consonant cluster in the far left row, you tell the other players what it is and put your coloured counter on that hexagon.
The blockbusters TV gameshow lends itself perfectly to reviewing almost any subject, especially languages. A player or team leader selects a letter, then the teacher gives a hint or definition as to what word it stands for. The first player or team* to answer gets that spot. The first team to join their sides of the game board wins.
This is endlessly replayable - as long as you can think of a word, you’ve got a question.
I’ve also included a “Gold Run” bonus game - in this case practicing English idioms, but could be altered to be about almost anything.
This is by far my students’ favourite game, they get incredibly competitive with it!
*due to the nature of the game board, the teams should be slightly imbalanced, either in ability or in numbers - just like on the show.
This resource gives the students an overview of their new AQA Literature and language courses.
Both PowerPoints contain:
- details of the AOs (Assessment Objectives from the AQA mark schemes) and how these fit into each individual question
- information on the different papers, sections and questions
- information on the marks for each question
- opportunity/ activties for AFL at the beginning and end of the lesson
- a Blockbuster activity to test what the students remember
Language
This contains detailed information on the different sections of both Paper 1 and Paper 2 using student friendly language. The PowerPoint also contained information on Section A and B for both papers with a breakdown of the reading questions and brief examples.
Literature
Slides also cover the meaning of 'extract to whole' and explains the different papers using student friendly language. Again, details are given on the different questions, marks and how these are linked with the different AOs from the mark scheme.
The Blockbuster Quiz
To play, click a hexagon, press the space bar for the answer and then click the answer to go back to the Blockbuster grid. Questions test the students on their understanding of their Literature GCSE course and exam.
A brilliant resource for introducing the new Literature and Language AQA Specification to your students or for exam preparation and revision.
Here is the blank template for Busters and MathBusters (a version of BlockBusters), updated finally for 2021!
Students work in teams to answer questions and make their way across the game board. The winner is the team that makes it from one side to the other without being blocked by their rivals!
This resource was originally designed for Mathematics teaching, but the blank Busters template can be used across all subjects and grade levels.
