These comprehensive GCSE, AQA resources are designed to support students in developing a deep understanding of the key theme of social responsibility in An Inspector Calls, and explores characters and ideas related to this in An Inspector Calls. The resources provide structured guidance for students preparing for their English Literature exams, helping them to explore complex topics such as socialism and capitalism. The essay scaffolds are particularly valuable for structuring student responses. This method ensures that they engage effectively with the text, using key quotes and analysis to demonstrate their understanding of how Priestley presents important themes, such as the interconnectedness of society and the critique of capitalism. Key extracts are also provided with contextual information that students can refer to.
The model essay and glossary provides additional support, offering a clear example of a high-quality essay response. The essays showcases the expected standards for GCSE (AQA) and includes a glossary of essential terms, such as “collective responsibility” and “moral authority,” helping students to build a strong vocabulary for literary analysis.
Furthermore, the contextual materials include letters and insights from J.B. Priestley, giving students a deeper understanding of the playwright’s intentions and the socio-political messages embedded in the play. These resources not only prepare students for exam success but also encourage them to think critically about social justice and their role in society.
Description: Reading the exam paper can be a daunting task, especially for students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) who may struggle with concentration and focus and react badly to the time pressures in formal exams.

This simple, humorous worksheet provides coping strategies tailored to help ADHD students effectively navigate the exam paper reading process, enabling them to comprehend instructions, manage time, and approach questions with confidence.

I used this with my GCSE drama students to great effect. The mnemonic makes it easy to remember and gives ADHD students who find it difficult to get started, a set of simple transferable tips to begin in a positive frame of mind.

By implementing these simple steps, ADHD students can effectively manage the process of reading the exam paper, ensure they understand what is being asked of them and approach questions strategically so they can perform to the best of their abilities at both GCSE and A level. This will boost their confidence no end and allow them to shine.

As a neurodiverse learner, exam season can be daunting. Revision can be challenging, but there is a lot of support out there.

This worksheet is designed to help neurodiverse learners plan for their exams so that their parents and teachers can make the day run as smoothly as possible and support learners as best as they can.

This series of resources is to be taught while studying ‘Of Mice and Men’. It is designed predominantly for classes in Special Needs schools in the UK. The resources help the pupils prepare for various qualifications. This includes Entry Level English, Functional Skills English and GCSE English Language. In total, there are 11 lessons in the series. Each lesson is differentiated. This means that the lessons are set at EL1, EL2, EL3 and at wither Level 1 Functional Skills or GCSE. There are reading, writing and speaking and listening lessons. Both the writing and speaking and listening lessons can be taught using various marking schemes.

These lessons can also be used in main stream education for pupils working either below GCSE level or at a low GCSE level.

This lesson prepares pupils for speaking and listening exams.

This ‘Pearson/Edexel style’ Entry-Level worksheet is perfect for introducing fiction reading papers to KS4 and KS5 students working at Pre-GCSE level.

Mirroring the style of Pearson/Edexcel exam papers, this resource is based on WW1 and War Horse. I used this resource to introduce the students to a Fiction Reading Paper after teaching a unit based on War Horse by Michael Morpurgo - it could equally be used to practice answering questions about an “unseen” text as in the real exam. No former knowledge of the topic or story is required to answer the questions.

The questions are tailored to encourage discussion with the students about reading exam questions carefully, looking for key words and how to tackle questions with more than one point available. The language used to direct students is the same as in the official papers, although this resource is not endorsed by Pearson/Edexcel.

This activity was made for students working towards the Edexcel Entry Level 1 English paper, but could be used as a starter exercise or confidence-booster for students working at the next level up or doing Functional Skills.

This activity could also be used for teaching English as a foreign language.
