Content
This lesson is designed to work with MYP, KS3, NCSS standards and is ready to go straight out the box. This lesson includes the following files; 1) Powerpoint presentation, 2) Resource sheets, 3) worksheets, 4) comprehension test, 5) a lesson plan (MYP aligned).
How to Use
Students will be introduced to a series of different map projections, along with the reasons for their differences. They will then engage in a work task to evaluate what projection is most suitable for a particular task before evaluating the usefulness of a range of projections in real life situations. This lesson can run either as an individual task or a group activity. A model lesson structure is outlined in the lesson plan. This also provides actively provides opportunities for SEN and LEx differentiation.
Who Should Buy This
This lesson can be used by anyone, but it is designed to be taught out of the box. It is best suited to a new teacher or a teacher who wants everything done with no input from themselves. I strongly advise looking at the units bundles if you want to build on each lessons topics sequentially. If you are a more experienced teacher then check out the resource packs for use in history lessons.

This project based learning resource is an engaging Geometry based Math mini project revolving around designing a Gnome village or town using isometric paper and is a great back to school or end of term activity. The project lasts up to 5 lessons plus there are additional problem solving worksheets that could fill 2 more lessons. Includes fun geometric tasks, bursting with mathematical concepts and math skills such as isometric drawings, 3D shapes, elevation drawings and plans. It also offers opportunities to be creative and to develop number problem solving strategies.
I’m certain you and your students will enjoy Gnome Homes. My students always love it and still talk about it years later!
The aim of the task is to create all the 15 different shapes out of 4 Multilink cubes and then design a Gnomes village using these shapes as buildings. The village/town must be decorated in a theme and as this can be set as a competition within the class or year group, the student with the most creative Gnome Homes, wins.
Not only must students design their village, they must also work out the costs involved with each building relating to the ground rent, paint for the walls and tiles for the roofs.
There are activities and problem solving questions based on the task, that are available for students who need extension work.
Finished products can be laminated for a super wall display.
Can be set as a class or year group competition and entries displayed.

Written in the form of journal entries, this scheme allows students to develop their creative writing skills, understand how to build descriptions and write to persuade and inform.
Lessons are fully planned with a starter and learning objective. There is opportunity for peer assessment at the end of each lesson to encourage further development.
File in this resource: The Island Project - PowerPoint of all lessons.
This booklet includes a week of engaging activities with curriculum links to maths, geography, science, computing and DT.
Example tasks include calculating the cost of running a zoo, finding a suitable plot of land, drawing a zoo map, creating a training slideshow for zoo staff, designing a cafe menu and organising an event to encourage visitors.
It could be used for a whole class or for children who aren’t going on residential. There are two versions of the booklet included so you can choose whether children record their answers within the booklet or separately. Children will need access to the internet to complete the tasks.

I have done this DT project several times now and it is great.
I usually use art straws but have also just provided the class with newspapers to create their own rolled paper structures. Recently, i did the project with a year 6 class and we used wood. This also involved sawing and glue guns which was great fun but required a risk assessment.
Hope you find the resource useful.
A little something i put together last year for my year 6 class to inform them what Children in Need is actually all about (you would be shocked if you knew how little they actually knew!) It involves the chn carrying out a Children in Need knowledge quiz, watching a video about the people who are helped by Children in Need and then in groups researching different elements of Children in Need before presenting the information to another class, Head Teacher etc It worked a treat last year, with the children really enjoying it, so intend to use it again this year
