This Assembly has been used to promote reading among pupils. The PowerPoint uses engaging images as prompts to guide pupils through the benefits and importance of reading, the lessons to be learned from famous novels, while also offering pupils the opportunity to discuss their favourite books. The script for the assembly is easy to follow, with corresponding slides for the PowerPoint labelled for ease. Alternatively, a version of the powerpoint that combines the presentation and script is also included. It is also interactive, allowing for audience participation. Year 6 SATS reading impressions questions PPT

(0)
Have you been struggling teaching your Year 6 class how to answer impressions questions in reading comprehension tasks? Do you want some support in giving a clear method with examples and practice questions? This PowerPoint might just be the answer. This Year 6 reading SATS preparation lesson focuses on impressions questions and supports the children to give answers that give two very different impressions of a person, place, object or setting. This resource includes: Steps to success Examples of modelled answers Practice questions for Year 6 pupils to have a go with Answers given throughout The method focuses around giving two very distinctive impressions. The analogy of a weighing scale is used to show that the two impressions should be different - kind and thoughtful, for example, would be too similar. Please note that this PowerPoint is flattened (cannot be edited).

Year 6 SATs Reading Comprehensions

(0)
Contains three classic fiction text extracts accompanied by SATs style questions with answers. The final text in the year 6 reading test is often very challenging and the associated questions require depth of understanding. It can be difficult to find suitable texts and develop suitable questions to practise the skills needed to do well in this section of the SATs reading paper. This resource can help. It contains three: Challenging classic fiction texts Mini-tests containing 10 questions which are similar in style to those commonly found in this section of the test including questions linked to inference, evidence and impressions. Answer sheets similar to the markschemes used in SATs. Reading the text and answering the questions for each mini-test will take about twenty minutes - approximately the same amount of time the children will have to complete the last section of the reading test during SATs. This enables this resource to be used for test practice to develop test technique. The answer sheet can then be used to analyse and discuss suitable answers. The comprehensions are based on the following books: -Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens -Anne of the Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery -The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit

Included: • SATs style comprehension questions for the first sixteen chapters of the novel. • A teaching PowerPoint with an introduction to the author, their other works and copies of the questions. For New Year 2024 and back to school after the Christmas holidays, here is a differentiated January nonfiction passage / informational text reading comprehension, cloze procedure task, and fun puzzles, designed for upper Primary (Upper KS2 - Years 5 and 6 and equivalents) or early Secondary (KS3 - Year 7 and equivalents). An additional US spelling / grammar version is included in the Zip file with a small number of amendments to the UK version. Also available in this money-saving**January Reading Comprehensions BUNDLE**.   Most activities are provided at two levels of challenge, therefore they will suit a range of year groups and provide appropriate levels of challenge for different abilities within many classes.   I am designing these non-fiction comprehension and activities packets to provide a variety of interesting and relevant texts and related activities, a time-saving bank of flexible themed tasks linked to dates throughout the year. They feature specially written very short texts (about 250 - 300 words). Each pack is linked to a particular month but of course you can use them whenever you want! Each provides comprehension questions, a cloze procedure task and other linked tasks. The other tasks are on aspects of spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, grammar, writing or reading (this varies across the different packs). Build all activities into your Literacy or English programme, or use for cover lessons, homework, early finisher tasks or for those times when everything goes crazy and you just need something low-prep, meaningful, relevant and engaging at the last minute! I hope you enjoy using them.   CONTENTS: Reading passage (2 levels of difficulty) Cloze procedure task (2 levels of difficulty) – using same passage Comprehension questions (2 levels of difficulty) – using same passage Vocabulary grid puzzle (2 levels of difficulty) – using same passage Proofreading puzzle Full answer keys Teacher notes   YOU MIGHT LIKE… Complex Sentences Activity Cards Editing SPaG Puzzles Worksheets Full Stops and Capital Letters Cards Improving Sentences Writing Worksheets Winter Stories Creative Writing Story Prompts Creative Writing Story Prompts
