Year 2 class assembly based on ‘The Seaside’. Includes information about history of seasides from 100 years ago, habitats, protecting the oceans, activities at the seaside. Also includes a song and 2 poems for childrne to learn. I used this with Year 2; could be adapted to year 1 or year 3/4.

This is a fantastic Unit of Work that has been tried and tested. Set in the themes of Where’s Wally, the children travel with Wally back in time and sea how the seaside has changed from Victorian times to now. This pack is complete with everything you need t teach the series of four lessons as well as three additional extension activities. Miss Bake

This resource is a set of 5 Art lessons based around the theme of the sea, oceans and water for KS1. The key skills that are taught include creating different tones and shades with paint and pencil, using shapes, patterns and lines and experimenting with different materials. There are 3 different artists used as inspiration, all of whom have painted the sea or water using very different techniques. The children have the opportunity to work alone for 4 lessons and part of a collaborative group project for the final lesson. They have lots of opportunity to choose what materials they work with. The 15 page pdf lesson plans are very detailed and include a list of any resources you will need to get out of the cupboard. There are also details of curriculum links and examples of work from my classes. I have included the simple 7 slide PowerPoint I used for the series of lessons, which contains examples of the artists’ work around which the lessons are based. I hope you enjoy the lessons! This is a simple sensory and massage story based around the Seaside. It is in a Publisher format, so it can be easily adapted and then printed for laminating. This has been designed for small groups of pupils with severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties. Key learning aims include: Understanding of the World (using real world objects, such as sand and water) Developing self-esteem (through touch) Multi-sensory processing (engaging all of the senses) Developing sense of rhythm and early literacy (use of story-telling and music) Anticipation (learning what comes next, waiting, taking-turns) This can easily be adapted for different pupils of different ages. Take plenty of time on each section of the story. Allow time and space for pupils to process the stimuli and respond. It’s wonderful to see how tactile-defensive pupils can become braver and more confident when they’re given plenty of time and space, free from judgment and expectation. I’d recommend using this for a whole term, because it can sometimes take that long for the learning to happen (e.g. it may take weeks before a learner is willing to put their feet into a tray of sand). This attractive seaside sheet links letters and their sounds to pictures of familiar items starting with those letters: s - sea, f - fish, b - boat. Children will naturally sound out the words, without the bother of working their way through all the letters in them. This will bring meaning and interest to the sounds.
