Gradient and Area Under Graphs - NEW GCSE - Sequence of lessons

(139)
This is something I produced for my top set Year 11s to cover the new GCSE topic of gradients of curves and area under graphs. Included is a PPT that covers several lessons building from general principles, through velocity-time graphs, to gradients of curves and area underneath them. Also included are examples to match the PPT that can be handed to students for annotation and worksheets for each lesson. The velocity-time graph worksheet is an adaptation of one sent to me so not sure of the original author but happy to credit if told. It all finishes with some exam style questions I've written based on sample assessment material from Edexcel.

Algebraic Fractions

(104)
Powerpoint covering the full range of Algebraic Fractions topics. From simplifying to multiplying and dividing, to adding and subtracting, to finally solving equations involving them. Includes the Tarsia referenced in the PPT, though I can't claim the credit for making this!

Maths Pythagoras - Hypotenuse game

(107)
A game I made as a revision tool for covering the topic of Pythagoras' Theorem with my year 9s and 10s. Pupils reveal squares with questions hidden behind them which they must work out. Great for a starter/plenary activity.

Mathonopoly - Solving Equations

(64)
Based on Manoj Mistry (manojm03)'s excellent Mathonopoly idea, this is an adapted version I've made. The questions are designed for Year 7 students being introduced to solving equations. I&'ve also created some humerous chance and community chest cards (although some references may need to change to suit your school).

Functions (New GCSE 2015)

(134)
A PowerPoint I made to take my Year 10s through the new GCSE topic on Functions. Starts with simple function notation and substitution, before moving on to composite functions - both numeric and algebraic - and finishing with inverse functions.<br /> <br /> Also included are two codebreakers for the substitution elements that lead to a funny joke. I also created a Tarsia for the inverse functions element, but sadly can't upload that to TES. Instead, you can download it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_raar3XGLkMVVhRdFZvUDJQNk0/view?usp=sharing (ignore the weird preview it gives you - just download it and it's fine).

Index Laws

(110)
PPT covering most of the index laws up to and including negative indices. Was designed as an introduction to index laws for my year 9s.

Area and Perimeter

(120)
Several resouces in this targetted at differing abilities. The 7LT one was for a high ability year 7 group that jumps in at the deep end, beginning with an area investigation before quickly going through areas of triangles & trapezia, volume of cubes é cuboids é ending with circles. The 7RA one focuses more on perimeter é slowly goes through the area of 2D shapes (exc. circles). The 10RS one is a very thorough look at area é perimeter focusing on all 2D shapes including circles, moving at a very slow pace. There are a couple of worksheets é a matching activity to accompany the PPTs.

Capture Recapture - NEW GCSE

(53)
This is a simple PowerPoint I made for my Year 11s to teach the relatively straightforward new topic of Capture Recapture. It has a link to a video featuring Jonny Ball demonstrating it in practice which is quite good. I tried to embed it as a flash vide but I've included the YouTube link if that doesn't work.<br /> <br /> I've also included the joke codebreaker I got my Year 11s to do, seeing as they seem to enjoy doing these! The joke should be &quot;How do you keep an idiot in suspense?&quot;

Pointless Christmas

(89)
Based on the TV show Pointless, this is a quiz I've made to while away the last few hours of this term with my classes. Couple of rounds on maths topics, otherwise it&'s largely Christmas themed or just general knowledge. You may need to change the Ringwood round though! Also included is the answers which are handy to have alongside the game in case you&';re not sure if they're correct or not. It&'s also worth having a play with before using so you&';re used to how to operate it.

Box Plots and Cumulative Frequency Curves

(48)
A load of resources aimed at teaching Cumulative Frequency Curves, Box Plots and then putting the two together. Included are a couple of notes handouts that follow the PPT so students don't have to copy loads of notes and a couple of worksheets to allow students practice what they&'re taught and assess their understanding.

Drawing Bar Charts

(78)
PPT for drawing bar charts, beginning with pictograms and building towards comparative bar charts. Requires students to collect and represent their own data using tally charts, frequency tables and bar charts.

Iteration for the new GCSE

(74)
A PPT that goes through how to answer iteration questions for Year 10/11 students on the new GCSE. Finishes with some very tough questions, including a wordier problem. Also includes a bonus Throwback Thursday starter! <br /> <br /> Worksheet attached is one I found on the internet, so can't claim credit for that!

Solving Quadratic Equations - Sequence of Lessons

(71)
Included is a long PPT covering the whole range of methods for solving quadratic equations, from factorising, through completing the square to using the formula (didn't do graphically). It is designed to be about 8 - 10 lessons worth of material. Also included are three Qwizdom quizzes I made to accompany the PPT to provide an alternative form of assessment.

Lengths of Arcs and Area of Sectors

PPT I made to teach how to find the arc length and area of a sector to my Year 10s. Also looks at working backwards, given the area or arc length to find either the radius or the angle at the centre.

Exponential Growth/Decay - NEW GCSE

(62)
This is a PPT I put together for my Year 11 top set to cover off the new GCSE topic of exponential growth and decay.<br /> <br /> The PPT is fairly straightforward, going through a couple of examples to show one way of answering the wordier style of questions and then develops into questions involving finding unknowns from an exponential graph that has been seen in some Edexcel practice papers and mocks.<br /> <br /> I've also included the Exponentials Mastermind activity I'll do to reinforce this topic. It's based around the class crack-the-code style Mastermind game. Students answer the 10 questions and after each one take a guess at the code you make up but are only told how many digits they have correct and how many are in the correct position. <br /> <br /> Haven't used it yet so please let me know if you spot any errors.

Plotting Linear Graphs

(54)
A variety of PPTs aimed at teaching the plotting of linear graphs to KS3 students. Use whichever one is most suitable to your class. There is also a worksheet to test their knowledge on gradients, and a fun quiz on the properties of linear graphs.
