AQA GCSE Biology Paper 1 Exam Warm Up

(0)

A fantastic way to get your student’s brains warmed up before they go into their biology paper 1 exam (AQA, but could be edited for other awarding bodies). We have conducted warm ups before every GCSE exam as we found that students go in feeling an increased sense of confidence and positivity.
The powerpoint reminds students of the quick wins, exam techniques and some fundamental knowledge that they will already know but builds their confidence.
This resource also comes with:

retrieval game (connect 4) where students retrieve maths and scientific skills.

A3 student hand outs with exam questions

This resource could equally be used as a revision session to be completed in the weeks running up to the exam or before a mock.

Revision game: scientific and maths skills connect 4

A fun game that can be used by students to recall and apply scientific and maths skills as they prepare for all of their GCSE science exams.
In pairs (or in two teams) students pick a square, the question is read out, if they answer their square square correctly they colour it in, in their colour.
The other student then repeats. Play continues until a player gets 4 in a row.
This can be adapted in lots of different ways (e.g. squares can be selected at random using two dice, students have to get 5 in a row or 6 in a row etc. or students have to get a full column).
A low states activity where students are engaged during recall.

How do I revise Science

Poster and student hand out that describes and explains strategies to revise Science. This includes descriptions of dual coding, Cornell notes, learning maps, interleaving, revision Apps and others. The resources also has a summary hand out for students that they can stick in their books for easy reference. I have also found it very useful to give the poster out to parents during progress evenings.
So many times I have students come to me saying that they don’t know how to revise. This resource is a very student friendly resource that ensures students from KS3 to KS5 have clear and easy to follow instructions for the well researched and effective revision strategies.

Year 12 synthetic routes revision OCR A Chemistry

It can be really difficult remembering all the reagents, conditions and types of reactions for how we make the different organic compounds. They need to remember all of them!

This revision resource helps year 12 students learn and remember all the routes needed for year 12 module 4 of the OCR A chemistry specification The first slide is a complete summary map of the synthetic routes. The following slides have increasingly missing parts that you are to fill in from memory. Doing this every other day or once a week will really improve their recall of these.

Another way to use them is to print them on A3 and laminate so that they can fill them in from memory (great starter!)

It can be really difficult remembering all the reagents, conditions and types of reactions for how we make the different organic compounds. You need to remember all of them from year 12 and 13 organic chemistry

This revision summary map of all the routes makes it easy for students to test their knowledge. The first slide is a complete summary map of the synthetic routes. The following slides have increasingly missing parts that they are to fill in from memory. Doing this every other day or once a week will really improve students recall.

Also, you can print onto A3 and laminate so that they can use a fine whiteboard pen to complete in class as a starter or during revision. This way the resource can be used over and over again.

AQA GCSE Biology, chemistry and physics revision bookmarks

Students to use these as bookmarks for inside their biology, chemistry and physics exercise books. I have also attached a slide that can be shared with students of how to use these resources.

Print them double sided as each bookmark has two sides of key information.

Each has key concepts to remember that they can use to recall equations, command words, scientific keywords and labelled diagrams that they need to learn (e.g. animal and plant cell organelles for biology, wave diagram for physics, atomic structure for chemistry. The physics bookmark has all the equations they need to learn for AQA GCSE physics and combined sciences. There is a recall line graph that identifies anomalies, line of best fit and where to put the independent and dependent variables on the x and y axis.
My students have found these very useful during their lessons and as a revision aid.
