PowerPoint and accompanying worksheet covering Contemporary Music of the British Isles, in line with AQA GCSE spec. Whilst modes are briefly outlined, students no longer need to identify specific modes so I don’t go into loads of detail here. There are audio examples and a question pulled from an AQA GCSE paper at the end to consolidate knowledge.

A PowerPoint outlining the main chord types students need to know for GCSE music. Particularly useful when attempting to broaden their knowledge of extended chords/harmony and getting them to apply these to their compositions. There are accompanying worksheets and a chord challenge for them to try as well.

A lesson outlining the most common forms of FX and sonic components students might encounter studying GCSE music, with examples and a short test at the end.

A lesson I created to help pupils understand and be able to recognise and keep a steady pulse/beat. It includes a composition/performance based activity and is aimed at Yr7/8 level. You can use any piece of music you want for the listening example, but it must have a clear, steady beat that isn't too fast.

Some PowerPoints and samples I use to teach EDM to KS3 (Year 9). We are using Logic Pro X (iMacs) at our school so if you don’t have these this won’t be useful. I also use the traffic light system at the end of each PowerPoint to demonstrate to students how to do various things (use the drummer, use an arpeggiator etc.) so if you don’t know how to do these things you might not find this useful!
