A range of titles sorted into BL (book levels) to help students and parents find reading at their ZPD (zone of proximal development) level. There is an attempt in this resource to suggest at least one book per BL (e.g. 6.1, 6.2, 6.3…) although this was not always possible at the extremities. A range of themes are covered in this reading list including BME perspectives, gender and identity, mental health, and the LGBT+ movement.

AQA Poetry Anthology linked lessons (P&C)

A mini unit covering 6 of the trickier poems and the links between them. Includes PPTs and printable resources for between 12 and 14 lessons as you see fit. **I have made two of the lessons from this unit free to download so you can purchase this unit only if you are happy with what you see in them. ** Each poem is covered by two lessons with a focus on language, structure, context and making comparisons with opportunities for individual and collaborative working. Some differentiation is also included for your lower ability students. There is a focus not just on the structure of each poem but also on how to structure your own essay response. Each lesson features a ‘settling’ slide for students to consider as they prepare to start the lesson whilst teacher is doing the register. I currently teach the Power and Conflict poetry in three chunks. This collection focuses on the last 6 poems and I use it towards the end of Year 10. However you choose to use them, I hope you enjoy these lessons as much as I did making them. Any constructive criticism appreciated. Poems covered in ordered sequence: Ozymandias (free to download - see my profile) My Last Duchess Checking Out Me History The Emigree (free to download - see my profile) Kamikaze Tissue

A short activity that I have used with my low ability Year 10. Print out copies of the table. Higher ability can make their own links between ideas and character, whilst lower ability can deduce answers using the second slide to complete the table with pre-defined answers. NB. This is a post-reading task. Like this resource? Please see my other files, one of which takes this activity to the next level by linking specific quotes to contextual factors and has differentiated quotes for stretch and challenge.
