This Unit of work was created for a Year 8 English class studying a thematic unit about environmental concerns. The Unit can be broken up into 3 sections<br /> <br /> Section 1 - The Unit starts by looking at some background information about earths water. Students are then presented with question prompts for a visualisation exercise. <br /> Before the poems there are three images of the ocean, The Gulf Stream by Winslow Homer, The Wave by Katsushika Hokusai, and Sea Turtle by Christian Vizl. There are two questions on each image.<br /> Optional Homework activity - Sea / Ocean Collage<br /> Section 2<br /> Poetry of the sea includes;<br /> The Seal by William Jay Smith - 7 Questions<br /> The Ocean by Nathaniel Hawthorne - 6 questions<br /> Sea Lullaby - Elinor Wylie - 3 Questions<br /> There is an extract from Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Little Mermaid' as a comparison to the poems.<br /> Section 3<br /> Save the Oceans - Class collection of ideas / Problems affecting oceans of the world/ Efforts being made to protect our oceans.
