After the first few Biology papers in GCSE Combined Science and Biology this year it is clear that students knowledge of Standard Form and use of common units will need to be firmly embedded in their minds. As a result I have produced a set of resources to help students learn this topic (part of 4.1 Cell Biology and as a Maths Skill requirement). This resource contains an interactive powerpoint including hyperlinks, questions, worked examples, learning tasks and answers. There are student sheets included.

This includes the equipment, method, mitotic index, risk assessment and exam questions to test students. This is AQA A level Biology Required Practical 2 - Observing Mitosis using root tip squashes.

AQA published the advance notice for AQA A level Biology listing the major focus topics in rank order. These Spec lists contain ALL the information from the spec in RANK ORDER, including lower tariff topics for Paper 1,2 & 3. Also included is a useful overview sheet showing all of the spec and where the emphasis is on for higher mark questions. I’ve also arranged a briefer overview sheet that is on one page, showing rank order - great for students to stick on their walls!!

This is x2 lessons on AQA A level Biology - 3.6.1.3 The Control of Heart rate. Includes lesson content, DARTS activity, Exam Q’s and comprehensive notes to cover this section. Covers SAN/AVN, myogenic control and nervous control via parasympathetic and sympathetic neurones.

AQA A level Biology - Retina photoreceptors including rods and cones. Full powerpoint with answers and worksheets. Exam questions for self study/homework and all answers provided - a complete 2 lessons worth.

These packs are designed for students to improve their exam technique. They could also be used for testing purposes. Contains two packs, one for Higher tier and the other for Foundation Tier.

This is a fully resourced lesson - probably 2 lessons worth. It has been designed with my Foundation Tier Combined Science group in mind but would be fine for Higher Tier students. It covers the following…
Drugs, Aspirin, Digitalis, reminder on Vaccines and then onto antibiotics and antibiotic resistance.

It has several tasks included

Cards - each student shares the information on their bench about drugs, vaccines and finally antibiotics. There is a question sheet to put together answers as a group or as individuals.

Includes a video link about Alexander Fleming and the discovery of penicillin

Has a ppt animation to help students understand antibiotic resistance

Includes a statement sort that they can then put into a storyboard - students can draw appropriate diagrams to help them understand the concept (correct order is included).

Video about the causes and a brief explanation of each.

I hope you find it useful. It worked well with my students.

This is a complete resource for the whole of AQA A level Biology 3.8.4.1 Recombinant DNA Technology. Includes a FULL ppt on all the stages of Making DNA fragments, In vivo amplification including insertion, and identifying transformed host cells. Comes with set of handouts, recall questions and exam questions on the topic.

Also includes an activity to manually find the correct restriction enzyme and to then insert a gene into a plasmid - develops concepts of sticky ends, palindromic sequence.

Useful for Teachers, tutors and students.

This resource includes a lesson presentation on calculation magnification and actual size of cells when viewed with a microscope. It includes activities for students to test their knowledge.

Revision powerpoint with ALL main knowledge required for AQA A level Biology 3.5.4 Nutrient Cycles. Includes questions to test students. Clear and concise with diagrams and keyword explanations. Also includes an Exam pack with 9 questions, total of 61 marks.

Complete set of exam packs for the GCSE Biology topic of Infection and Response. Can be used by students for extra exam practice or as tests for the end of topic.

Advance material was recently published by AQA. These checklists/spec lists are tick sheets for students to check through that they are revising the correct content for the Summer 2022 exams. “Major focus” and “will be assessed” Required practicals are highlighted. All content that is NOT being examined has been removed. Useful for teacher as well to keep tabs on all the changes and ensure students are revising the correct content for the revised exams.
