This SOW is designed to help KS3 students develop the skills they will need when they come to study the poetry clusters for the GCSE 9-1 in literature. The content is aimed at year 9 students, although it can be easily adapted for years 7&8.<br />
The lessons build up to an assessed essay comparing how relationships between parents and children are presented in 'Mother any Distance' and 'My Father Thought it' by Simon Armitage. <br />
There is a PowerPoint for every lesson and all the resources, including copies of poems are provided.

A session that could cover between 2-3 lessons, designed for low ability students using resources sourced from the OUP 'Establishing the skills for learning and assessment'. The session covers:<br />
- Finding and interpreting information and ideas (AO1)<br />
- Analysing how a writer uses rhetorical questions and emotive language to persuade<br />
Easy to follow PowerPoint, with differentiated newspaper article that is easily accessed by lower ability students.<br />
