Sorting Robots - Averages Starter

(0)

Give students (or pairs) the first sheet and ask them to sort the robots, they can be sorted by colour, name (alphabetical), height (integers), weight (decimals) or operating temperature (negatives).

Give them one robot from the second sheet, this matches one of the others in different features, one for colour, a different one for name, a different one for height etc.

There are now an odd number of robots and only one is repeated. You can now discuss which single robot represents the sample and so can discuss the meaning of the median and the mode. For numerical ordering you can discuss the range.
