An IEP booklet I use with children. It covers how they prefer to learn and space for setting targets. I have included a sheet that gives brief instructions on how to use the booklet. Hope you might think it is useful.

This sheet works as a notice and as a worksheet! The pupil fills in the worksheet which is taken along when the fire alarm goes off, staff repeat the words the pupil has written to reassure the pupil, helping to keep them calm.

The symbols can be cut up into cards . The symbolscan be introduced after the concepts have been taught concretely through reading/following instructions. The cards then can be part of a wall dispay to remind pupils of the key features. They can also be used to help organise a piece of writing or visual reminders of the success criteria for a piece of work.

Use with pupils who need support in developing understanding of this popular playground game. Older children such as playleaders or midday supervisors can facilitate this game using the guide.

This guilde would be a appropriate for any student with special needs struggling with reading and writing skills, particularly where symbol supported text is required to achieve success and learning over 'text alone' approaches. It works with students at P5 and above (though I have a few even at P4).

The student writes in the columns on the right side of the symbols and the sheet is placed on the wall next to their work station so it's available for them to check at any time,
