This is a reasoning activity to assess knowledge of number bonds once learned with numicon. <br /> The children look at the row of three and decide which one does NOT make ten. They reason why, such as 'because it makes 11', or 'because I know that 6 and 7 are not a pair to ten'.

This resource requires children to use either bonds to 20 or simple number patterns/strategies to work out the problems. E.g. 'The chickens have laid 20 eggs between them. How many could they have laid each?&' Children are required to come up with as many solutions as possible.
