Spreadsheet Fun!

(17)
I love spreadsheets and try to find interesting ways to introduce and use them. The magic number started amazes kids until you show them how it works (even then they enjoy it), the Superquiz I use to show pupils how to use the IF( ) statement in a really fun way. It's differentiated on different sheets. The last document is a discussion of ideas and excellent online resources to take this further.

Getting to Know You Coat of Arms project.

As an ICT teacher I needed a 'getting to know you&' first lesson with my classes. I used this with years 5, 6 and 7. Here is the instruction page and the blank template. I wanted to use this to observe pupils&'; skills. I plan to use it with younger groups this year, but will read out their options..

AQA A Level Business syllabus display powerpoint

I made this presentation to make a wall display for all the units in the AQA business A Level. I printed all the oval, and single rectangles as single slides, and all the double rectangle slides as 2 per sheet…see picture for one idea for display.

I think it’s really important for the students to see the pattern that the course makes, and wanted something that was sequential to help them visualise what hey have learned. I would like to produce a smaller, A4 version that’s sort of pocket-sized, too.
This picture shows part of Year 1, (or AS Level) but all units are included

These document explains statements of financial position (previously called balance sheets) visually. It’s really important to explain the possible ‘balances’ as well as the first technical terms including Working Capital, Captial Employed, Net Assets and Net current assets. It’s a really simple introduction and simplifies everything, which packing in a lot of information

Useful for BTec or A level Business or Enterprise

Was really popular with my year 8’s who were shocked by the small changes that all add up. It opened their eyes. They loved the Dove Evolution Advert.

This includes a rough lesson plan and links to retouched pics and articles about how media images affect how we think we should look. I highlighted the phrases in red and green for the less able students. Links to same articles are in starter.

I like to use a drawing game to introduce Scratch. Here's a slightly more complex version I developed for a school who were also learning about impressionism. There's two versions that run along side each other, one is just a bit easier. There&'s also a link to my blog showing the game in action.

I find Christmas is a really good time to get children to do something quite stretching - they don't notice as they are having so much fun! Three versions of the same &'e-card&';; each page links back to the front page. The easiest has almost everything done, the hardest is simply instructions in word showing how to make hyperlinks in powerpoint. - You can use this as your own instructions if necessary. Perhaps you could post these onto your school's website? I have a collection of images I share with pupils, but can&'t attach here. You could try &';Mikesfreegifs'
