Created in response to lockdown, but designed to be a classroom teaching tool too. The booklet contains 7 weeks worth of work based on Poems from Other Cultures (legacy specifications) suitable for KS3. Poems included: Two Scavengers, Island Man, Half-Caste, Nothing’s Changed, Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan, Blessing, Night of the Scorpion. Each poem begins with a ‘starter’ activity, followed by tasks related to the content of the poem, the language used and a Challenging thinking question. The booklet is differentiated so that there are extension and Challenge tasks, hopefully making it suitable for all abilities in one handy workbook. There is also a helpful glossary of key poetic terms at the end of the booklet. A complete scheme of work for the novel ‘A Monster Calls’ aimed at Year 7 or Year 8. The Powerpoints and resources for the first half of the novel (up to the Second Tale) are included. Some of the worksheets/resources are contained as hidden slides within the Powerpoint. An descriptive writing assessment in the style of the AQA Language Paper 1 Q5 is also included.

A revision quiz for ‘A Christmas Carol’ based on the TV game show, ‘Pointless’. This quiz really engages students and creates a competitive buzz in the room, whilst helping to revise key quotes, characters and plot points from across the novel. Much less boring than any paper based form of revision!

The differentiated “Ignorance and Want” activities are a re-working of a worksheet I discovered on TES previously and found really useful for analysing this section of the novel, especially when encouraging more independent thinking.

A reading assessment for Year 7 or Year 8 in the style of AQA’s Language Paper 1 Section A. Extract is taken from ‘Skulduggery Pleasant’ - first meeting of China Sorrows. A powerpoint for teaching students how to answer these styles of questions is also included.

Two workbooks created for KS3 remote learning exploring the character of Sherlock Holmes. The first looks at the presentation of Sherlock Holmes from a ‘Study in Scarlet’. The second begins to consider one of his cases - ‘The Sign of Four’ - with students making notes as if in a detective casebook.

Teaching powerpoint for a sequence of lessons studying Stave 2 of ‘A Christmas Carol’.

Created in response to lockdown, but can be used as a classroom resource too. Individual workbooks and chapters for the novella ‘Of Mice and Men’. Each workbook contains a range of activities to guide students through the novella, assessing comprehension, language analysis and including some general contextual information. The tasks are differentiated with Challenge task, to hopefully engage all pupils in the year group. There are 12 weeks worth of work in total - this can be adapted by removing certain tasks. A booklet of tasks looking at a simple version of the Theseus and the Minotaur myth. Students are asked to consider the morality of the decisions Theseus makes, as well as consider some general comprehension tasks. The booklet was originally created for remote learning. A more scaffolded version is also included for lower ability students. The version of the story is borrowed and freely available through other online sources.
