Jolly Phonics words and pictures for sorting (sets 1-7)

7 sets of cards in JP order. There are decodable words with matching pictures. If you cut them up and laminate them they would be suitable for independent work, for a small group working with an adult, or for your whole class phonics.

cvc sentences

I plan to show this powerpoint on the IWB and use it with children who need to move from just writing cvc words to being able to write short sentences. Ideal for groups working with individual whiteboards. you could also print off the pages that show the complete sentence, laminate those pages, cut off the writing and use for matching sentences with pictures.

Phonic Wordsearches

(92)
I used these wordsearches with Year 1 children as an independent activity during guided reading. They'd also be useful for Year 2 and KS2 children, depending on which phonic patterns children are looking at. I've uploaded more -but you can only put 20 documents on one resource.

Story cards

A set of cards divided into character, setting, object and time. Sprinkles uploaded some fantastic cards back in 2006 (http://www.tes.co.uk/article.aspx?storycode=3001354). I’ve used those original images, and then added quite a few extra ones. I use them with my Reception class for whole class storytelling. For older children, they’d also work as a stimulus for individual or group story writing.

Just what the label says! dinx67 posted a link to a great minibeast pack on the Woodland Trust Nature Detective website. The pack includes a lovely set of top trump cards. They're a little small and hard to read for younger children, so I've used the sites criteria and numbers to create a simplified version.

VCOP quick fire activities

(270)

A selection of quick fire activities (suitable for use in plenary or as 5 minute time fillers) to encourage children to think about Vocabulary, Connectives, Openings and Punctuation. They are designed to be cut into strips and then laminated. I find it useful to have a separate bag for each of the 4 areas, to make it easier to (literally and metaphorically) dip into them. I made them to use with a Year 1 class, but they may be useable or adaptable for other ages

Jolly Phonics flap books (sets 1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4)

(47)
Flapbooks are in 3 columns. Instead of cutting into cards, you fold the third column over covering the middle column, hiding the picture. Cut along the horizontal line in the 3rd column to make a flap. Children then read the word and lift the flap to see the picture and check if they were right.
