Wages (Hourly, Weekly and Annual Salary)

(18)
This activity involves working backwards and forwards in order to find the missing information for each job. It works by matching pairs. Print the Wages document, cut out the rectangles (10 with pictures, 10 without). Learners have to match the job title to the picture. The pictures have the number of hours worked per week and the job title has either the hourly rate of pay, the weekly wage or annual salary. Pupils then have to work out the remaining 2 (of hourly, weekly or annual). This activity is based at National 3 (Managing Money & Data) and Intermediate 1 levels in Scotland.

Hire Purchase

(4)
These are 6 hire purchase questions (some straight forward hire purchase calculations and other higher order thinking questions where the monthly payments or number of months is asked for). I used these as different stations and gave the class a time limit at each station (about 5 minutes worked well for my S2 class, with a minute transition time).

Time Quiz

(4)
This is a time quiz covering MNU 1.10a, MNU 1.10b and MNU 1.10c outcomes. This is set at First level (KS1). I made this as a revision quiz for my S1 SEN pupils. It covers telling the time, days of the week, months of the year, seasons and simple time intervals.

Speed Distance Time

(0)
This is an activity to calculate speed for pupils moving along a given distance. Measure out a distance in metres (30 metres worked well) then each student runs, walks, crawls, hops, skips or travels any way they want from the start line to the finish line. Another pupil in the class measures the time taken for each pupil. They can record the times on this sheet and then work out the speed that each pupil moved at. A nice way to end the lesson is to compare the fastest speed of the class with Usain Bolt's speed for 100m.
