7 ways to hook a reader

Used for upper KS2 to develop their use of hooking the reader into their stories. WARNING: I have not made the publisher document easy to print straight onto a booklet as the pages will be in the wrong order but if someone fancies changing the order then it does work really well. I printed it full A4 page and double sided it and used it that way.

Number recognition

I made this quick word worksheet where thie children can cut out the word form of the number and stick it below where the numbers are written numerically. There is enough space to do this although I would recomment cutting the words out first and giving the children the bundle to stick down. Very basic word document but saves someone else having to type it up!

Pitch and Expectation

I teach a LA math's group. For the application and assessment lesson that we do on Friday&'s I tend to use pitch and expectation questions or some problem solving activities. So here it is for shapes! A shape &';quiz'. One of them contains all the shape questions from Year 3,4,5 papers to access all levels in my class. The second has some that we haven&'t yet covered or ones that are the same questions removed. I allow children to use resources to help them and they work in MA pairs to help each other but whichever way you do it will provide great assessment :)

Functional Skills Number Overview

I’m new to teaching Functional Skills Maths from a previous career in Primary Education.

As I go along, I am to upload some of my planning and resources. Drop me a comment if you find them at all useful - some of them are basic but I have created them to save me time. I currently don’t have time to ‘jazz’ them up but I will look to in the future.

This resource is a snip and dump directly from the DfE framework for Fucntional Skills Maths and has all the ‘number’ learning statements from E3 - L2. I found it very useful when planning to have a clear overview to inform what should be ‘previously learnt’.
